The UP40 is a modular yacht concept that can be the base for a motor yacht, crossover yacht, or a sport explorer.

Italian yacht designer Fulvio de Simoni developed the design of the UP40 in close cooperation with the yard’s engineering team. The owner can choose the superstructure of the yacht. Design of a typical motor yacht, a crossover, or the design of a sports explorer yacht. The concept of the fixed platform benefits from faster deliveries and lower engineering costs but still with customization options.

The platform is designed to reach a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. The operating range is over 5,000 nautical miles at the economical speed of 10 knots.

The shipyard Antonini Navi will start the construction of the first hull in September 2020.

“For Antonini Navi’s first project we decided to apply a construction method to steel superyachts previously used mainly for smaller fiberglass boats: we created a modular platform designed down to the tiniest detail, enabling us to start building the hull and choose the type and concept at a later stage, even half way through the construction process.

This means that owners can personalize their superyacht when construction is already underway, and not only the interiors but also, and most importantly, the functional type. The result? Maximum flexibility of choice but shorter delivery times, because the hull design and construction have already been completed,” said Antonini Navi partner and sales manager Aldo Manna, adding that “it’s a complex choice requiring proven capability on the part of the engineering department, total synergy with a designer of exceptional experience and huge talent and, lastly, major investments in research and design, all of which Gruppo Antonini has in abundance.”

Cantiere delle Marche launched the 42m explorer yacht CROWBRIDGE.

Tommaso Spadolini designed the exterior and interior of CROWBRIDGE, while Hydrotec calculated the vessel. 2 x Caterpillar C32ACERT powers the yacht
970kW each @ 2100rpm that propel the ship up to 14 knots. At 10 knots, the operating range is 3,500 nautical miles with a fuel capacity of 60,000 liters. The engine room is well-sized for easy maintenance.

The owner’s full-beam suite is on the main deck forward. Accommodation of the guest and crew are on the lower deck.

Comments by designer and naval architect about CROWBRIDGE

Yacht designer Tommaso Spadolini comments:

“I worked with this client many times in the past and two of his most recent yachts bring my signature. He asked me for a clean and simple silhouette and generous interior/exterior areas to provide him and his family plenty of spaces to spend long holidays in total relax. These may seem very common requirements for a large yacht, yet he gave us precise indications about how private and social areas should be calibrated. He is an experienced yacht owner and he is aware of his family’s expectations and habits. The yacht has 7 guest suites, and 4 cabins for Captain and crew. All areas, both interior and exterior ones, both private and social, will pamper, delight and entertain all on board as they are on holiday.”

“The yacht has been designed to the standards set by a very experienced client who decided to switch from a planning yacht to a displacement one,” says Sergio Cutolo, founder and team leader at Hydro Tec. “Explorer 40.22 has been a totally new challenge for us,” Sergio maintains. “The beautiful design from Studio Spadolini required the highest degree of integration with the naval architecture and engineering to keep its unicity and perfect balance. Having already worked with Tommaso Spadolini, this was a successful and smooth process. The naval architectural aspects have been influenced by the peculiar weight distribution and from the bow profile that has been designed to the Owner’s Specific esthetic requirements. The hull is a typical round bilge displacement hull, with generous bulbous bow and flat sections aft. The beam/draught ratio has been taken to an optimal value and special provisions were taken to allow for high diameter/high efficiency propellers. Maximum speed will be higher compared to similar designs, and this was duly considered in designing the waterlines. From the structural point of view we minimized the impact of the structures on the hull and superstructures to maximize internal spaces. In the superstructure we managed to create the perfect match between the designed interior layout and windows positioning/size.”

Dutch yacht builder Van der Valk announced the sale of the 34m explorer yacht LADY LENE for a repeat client.

The new all-aluminum motor yacht with a wave-piercing bow has a very experienced development team. Alongside the fine Dutch craftsmanship by Van der Valk, the exterior and interior design come from the Guido de Groot Design studio. Also, Ginton Naval Architects and Diana Yacht Design are involved. Furthermore, LADY LENE gets a Hull Vane – a patented foil that has been proved by over 35 yachts and commercial vessels. The shipyard equipped Jangada 2 with the foil.

Guido de Groot comments the owner’s brief:

“We had to start our design by taking into account the very specific interior requirements with respect to height and accessibility. Only once these parameters had been established on the GA could we embark on the exterior design, and the owners also had detailed aesthetic wishes here, too, including a high robust bow combined with soft curved lines. There really was no comparable reference point for an elegant explorer like this, which made this a very enjoyable project.”

Interior spaces of LADY LENE

The experienced clients wanted a yacht for a life at sea in every stages of life. So, LADY LENE will have a wheelchair-friendly lift to connect the decks. The interior welcomes up to ten guests. The owner’s suite with an office is on the lower deck with two double guest cabins and a single cabin. The VIP suite on the bridge deck includes a balcony and an aft terrace. Dining and salon are on the main deck.

“Ceilings will be noticeably high here and in all luxury areas – a specific requirement from the owners – while the floors are all completely level with no protrusions or steps.”

Hans-Maarten Bais, creative director at DIANA Yacht Design comments:

“Charged with the naval architecture brief, we have been working very closely with Guido and his team on major influencing factors such as the height. Together we’ve had considerable success in creating a construction that is sufficiently strong while reducing the distance between the ceiling and deck. As the experts at Ginton have taken care of the hull lines, the DIANA team has leveraged on our 50 years of experience to provide the engineering and construction drawings. We have also supported the plate cutters and hull builders at Van der Valk, who already have a wealth of technical knowledge.

Partnerships such as these save time and costs because we can tackle new challenges as and when they arise, such as the addition of a large tender on the foredeck with a heavy crane. Other puzzles already solved include ensuring that water cannot seep into the interior through the flush, sill-free connections on the decks, and reducing the weight of the beams and girders to meet the desire for a sufficiently light draught to access the Bahamas.”

Jaron Ginton says:

“It is unusual for an explorer-type vessel to have a Fast Displacement hull as the LWL is so important at these speeds, we ‘cut the hull horizontally’ at a level around the waterline and scaled it in the length, creating a wave-piercing – not bulbous – bow and a longer submerged hull. Extensive research also concluded that we could save over 12.5% on fuel consumption at 11 knots by installing a Hull Vane appendage as well as reduce wake and pitch in head seas.”

The launch of LADY LENE is scheduled for December 2021.

Design Unlimited unveiled the fast sailing yacht concept RP42

Design Unlimited created the interior of the project, while Reichel/Pugh made the exterior design and naval architecture. The 42m sailing yacht RP42 has been developed for an owner who wants to sail around the world with the family.

The tender storage is under a hatch on the foredeck. When the bathing platform is folded out, the dinghy can be docked there for easy boarding. The area behind the double helm station contains lounge areas and sunbeds. Furthermore, there is a separate ladderway that leads to the master suite.

Extensive use of glass welcomes a lot of natural light in the deckhouse of the RP42

Thanks to the deckhouse with large windows and a glazed roof, the area is full of natural light. The generous deckhouse features the salon and a dining area. The fixed bimini over the cockpit is an extension of the deckhouse with seatings and coffee tables. Furthermore, there is an al-fresco dining table.

The lower deck accommodates eight guests in one owner’s cabin, two twin bed cabins, and one double cabin. The crew area has three double cabins plus the cabin of the captain and a crew mess.

ISA Classic 65 meter Yacht

ISA Yachts started the construction of the ISA Classic 65, a design by Enrico Gobbi - Team for Design and will be launched in 2021.

The design studio of Enrico Gobbi created both the exterior and the interior design of the ISA Classic 65. The color scheme appears in a classy blue and white with a black antenna mast.

The yacht has two pools. One is on the sun deck forward, the other one is on the main deck aft and features a counterflow system. More recreational areas are a gym, a massage room with sea view, outdoor cinema, and a Turkish bath. For fun around the vessel are two tenders and two jet skis.

The ISA Classic 65 comes with a 180 sqm beach club

The extensive 180 sqm beach club of the ISA Classic 65 transforms by a folding down the 3.9 x 4m transom door and side platforms.

“Simultaneously, the corresponding portion of the aft swim platform tilts and aligns itself with the opened stern door, essentially creating a same-floor tailgate at the water level.”

“The gangway opening mechanism too is literally one of a kind. Designed to be installed sideways on the port side of the transom – rather than lengthwise – it is divided into two sections and provided with a pantograph retracting system (that, once the gangway is extended, shuts its lower part for aesthetic reasons). This system has been specifically engineered to allow for a 2.10-meter ceiling height throughout the whole beach club.”

Italian shipyard Arcadia Yachts unveiled a renovated version of the Arcadia 115 which marks the fifth hull of the yacht model.

As many other yacht models, also the Arcadia 115 has been designed by the Italian yacht design studio Hot Lab. This fifth hull will be built on speculations and is ready in 2021. This yacht model is for both personal and charter operations.

“All the previous A115 yachts have been very successful in the charter market and on average have been rented for over ten weeks a year,” explains Ugo Pellegrino, the Sole Director of the Italian shipyard. “For this reason, when building this unit on spec, we decided to implement all the required commercial specifications, so the owner could decide to use the yacht for this purpose at a later date if so inclined. In any case, we are certain that even if the owner decides to use the yacht for personal cruising, the features required by charter class yachts will be to the advantage of the crew on board as well.”

Typical for Arcadia is the extensive use of glass to welcome a lot of natural light in the interior. Moreover, the superstructure features solar cells for less use of the generators at anchor.

“If we were to make just two examples, we could pick the jardin d’hiver on the upper deck and the arch that connects the aft and stern of the yacht” explains Enrico Lumini, from Hot Lab. “In the jardin d’hiver we worked so that the transparency clearly perceived when viewing the A115 from outside can be experienced inside as well. We achieved this with low furniture items concentrated inside the volume, away from the uprights and the large windows. Even for large elements, such as the 75” TV, we found solutions that reduce the visual impact as much as possible, such as hanging solutions.”

“The arch is a very strong feature, a distinguishing trait of ARCADIA’s A range,” adds Lumini. “Arches matching the main one have been included on the decks, to bring to mind the exterior line when standing inside. I am referring in particular to the lobbies and stairs, which are very important areas to valorize on the A115.”

Rossinavi Vector 50 motor yacht EIV

Rossinavi launched the 49m motor yacht Vector 50, christened EIV.

EIV was built for an American owner and has been designed by Team for Design – Enrico Gobbi. The designed studio created both interior and exterior of the yacht. Arrabito Naval Architects delivered the calculations. It is the smaller sister of the 63m UTOPIA IV, launched in 2018.

The full-aluminum fast-displacement hull yacht comes with a sporty design with a stylish reverse bow and automotive-inspired parts like air vent grills. EIV has a shallow draft of 2.29m to cruise in the waters of the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Florida.

Equipped with two MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines (1,939 kW each), EIV reaches a top speed of 19 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots. At the economical speed of 10 knots, the vessel has a trans-Atlantic range of 3,600 nautical miles.

Most of the furniture has been personally designed by Enrico Gobbi and upholstered with high-end fabrics of leading international brands such as Hermès, Rubelli, and Armani Casa. EIV accommodates up to eight guests plus the owner. The crew area contains four cabins on the lower deck plus captain’s cabin on the bridge deck with direct access to the wheelhouse.

The Princess X95 is the first unit of the new X-Model - designed by Pininfarina with naval architecture by Olesinski.

The layout of the Princess X95 offers 10 % more outdoor space and
40 % more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht of its class. Moreover, the hull is 15 % more efficient. Equipped with two MAN V12 engines, the vessel reaches a maximum speed of 23 knots.

The standard layout has accommodation for up to eight guests on the lower deck. There is a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, two twin-bed cabins, and a VIP cabin in the bow. Dining and galley are forward on the main deck.

The first unit has a five-cabin layout with a master stateroom on the main deck and another VIP cabin on the lower deck with a gym.

KENTAURUS Alpha Marine Yacht Design

KENTAURUS is a 50m motor yacht by the Greek yacht design and naval architecture company Alpha Marine Ltd.

Alpha Marine Ltd. created the 50m yacht (under 500 GT) as a private yacht but as a charter yacht as well. KENTAURUS accommodates 12 – 14 passengers and a crew of 11 people in 6 cabins.

The owner’s cabin on the main deck has a size of 51.2 square meters, while the VIP cabin on the lower deck has a capacity of 21 sqm. Furthermore, there are four guest cabins with a total size of 58 sqm.

The stern area of KENTAURUS transforms into a beach club with bar and seatings by fold-out two side platforms. But even without this feature, the fixed bathing platform with sunbeds is vast for its size, well designed, and an eye turner. If you are more addicted to sweet water, you can enjoy a pool aft or a Jacuzzi at the bow.

The tender storage has a capacity for a 6.5m and 5m RIB, four Seabobs, two jetskis, and jet surfboards with hydrofoils.

Alpha Marine also had a focus on fuel-saving and developed a hydrodynamically optimized hull. The propulsion system contains 2 x 1750 KW diesel engines connected to a Voith Linear Jet system.

Nobiskrug finished the hull of the 62m Project 794, designed by Espen Øino, and moved it to outfitting facility in Rendsburg.

Project 794 is the second superyacht project between the German shipyard and the company Imperial who acts as a broker and owner’s representative during the building process.

As project BLACK SHARK, Nobiskrug constructed the hull in their facility in Kiel and moved it to Rendsburg to start the outfitting of the yacht.

Nobiskrug describes the vessel as a performance-driven high-volume motor yacht.

The Ocean Sail 82 follows the sustainable philosophy of Alva Yachts. The 25m sailing yacht is a full-electric boat with solar panels.

HENNDESIGN penned the yacht as a performance cruiser with a racing hull. The exterior design comes with a clean design and an eye-catching bow with fixed-bow sprit to connect a large gennaker. To follow the sustainable philosophy of Alva Yachts on the Ocean Eco 90, also, the Ocean Sail 82 features electric drive and a large battery bank (140 kWh/10kWh). Solar panels on the bimini and the deckhouse have a maximum capacity of 5 kW. Furthermore, the Ocean Sail 82 regenerates the battery bank under sails with a hydro generator.

The stern area houses a jet tender, while the aft area of the interior accommodates a full-beam crew area for two people with galley and separate companionway from the double helm station. There are two layouts available. Layout 1 provides six guests, plus owners. Plan 2 replaces a bunk bed cabin with space for an office.

Royal Huisman unveiled Project 405 aka Nauta Reichel Pugh 151

Project 405 is a 46m lightweight sloop-rigged sailing yacht made of aluminum and carbon composite. Nauta Design delivered the exterior and the interior design while the speed specialists Reichel/Pugh made the calculations. Even the owner’s professional racing team was involved. The carbon-fiber rig by Royal Huisman’s subsidiary Rondal has a Panamax height to cross the Panama Canal. The owner’s brief calls for a comfortable yacht with the potential to win superyacht regattas.

“And the owners did not just want to take delivery of such an intriguing yacht; they wanted to be part of the whole process of designing and building it, and enjoy every step of the way. Which is why from the moment of the project’s inception, the owners drew together the team that could realize this experience for them”

The yacht accommodates ten guests including the owners and a crew of eight people.

The Italian shipyard launched the new RIVA 88 Folgore - designed by Officina Italiana Design with engineering by the Ferretti Group.

The RIVA 88 Folgore comes with a very modern, elegant, and sporty design with a low profile.

“The new exterior design philosophy displays lines and elements inspired by the automotive world, combining luxury and sportiness.
In a happy balance between past and present, it combines the use of innovative materials like carbon with traditional stylistic elements such as mahogany inlays and steel decorations.”

When the transom hatch opens, it transforms into a six sqm beach club. Furthermore, the door can immerse to launch the tender.

The interior of the RIVA 88′ features materials like wood, steel, glass, and marble. Moreover, RIVA offers the owner the choice between three layouts for the owner’s cabin. A VIP cabin and two double cabins are on the lower deck with en-suite bathrooms.

Italian yacht builder Cantiere Savona unveiled the Luxi 35 - a day boat with a top speed of 40 knots.

The 35-feet day boat has a small cabin forward for up to two persons, equipped with a lavatory, shower, and a galley. The standard engine configuration comes with Mercruiser inboard engines (740 hp). Moreover, as a custom project, the LUXI 35 is available with a total power of 1,200 hp. Hybrid propulsion is possible on request. The shipyard’s in-house design team made a clean and modern design.

Modern times need advanced materials, so Cantiere Savona uses eco-friendly glass fiber (GRP) to meet the boat’s name – luxi means light in the Sardinian language.

The outside area offers a freshwater shower, counter with sink, fridge, and refrigerator. The entry price of the boat is 400,000 EUR.

Alva Yachts is a yacht brand from Germany that developed a range of full-electric catamarans with solar panels on the roof. Here presented as  Ocean Eco 90.

Alva Yachts is a new brand with a focus on eco-friendly yachts. Alongside this catamaran yacht, the brand also offers the monohull sailing yacht OCEAN SAIL 82, a 60-feet catamaran and floating homes. The design comes from HENNDESIGN.

The 27m full-electric yacht features a 200 sqm surface of solar panels with 40 kWp to support the battery pack. Furthermore, a hydrogen fuel cell is available. In its full-electric version, the Ocean Eco 90 has 2 x 500 kW electric motors. Another version is the hybrid yacht with 2 x 250 kW electric engines and 2 x 456 kW.

Bering 106 Motor Yacht

The Bering 106 is a 32m yacht that belongs to the more modern designs of the shipyard that is known for explorer-styled boats.

The Bering 106 appears as a white yacht, but the 32m yacht has an enormous operating range of 4,000 nautical miles at 9 knots with a fuel capacity of 30,000 liters. The maximum speed is 13 knots, powered by twin Cummins QSM–11 with 455 hp each. The shipyard constructs the vessel with a displacement steel hull and an aluminum superstructure.

The flybridge comes with a second helm station, a wet bar, seatings, and sunbeds.

Interior Design

The master suite of the Bering 106 is on the bridge deck with a private terrace where is also the tender storage. The lower deck accommodates two VIP cabins and two twin guest cabins. Furthermore, there is a children’s playroom in the bow. The crew area with a mess and two cabins is in the stern area.

The forward main deck is the home of a big island kitchen with access to the bow area with Jacuzzi.

Vripack unveiled fossil-free project FUTURA with regenerative blue diesel biofuel made of food waste from Finland.

Futura is a 66m hybrid yacht, powered with biofuel made of food waste. Even the battery packs are made of bio-based batteries made of plants, sand, and salt. Furthermore, the 100 % biodegradable battery bank is rechargeable by a kite that is connected to an electric winch to be released by a push on a button.

“That’s the beauty of naval architecture,” says co-creative director Marnix Hoekstra. “First and foremost, you should mimic nature in the sense that you use as little energy as possible when crossing through the waves. We were driven by that goal from the outset.”

Bart Bouwhuis – co-creative director at Vripack, says:

What Futura offers owners is choice by approaching sustainability as a design challenge, we’re not waiting for owners to request this technology, we’re presenting them with a concept based on sustainable solutions that currently exist. The answers are out there; the supply is out there, owners just need to want it.

Vripack designed the interior as a “split and merge” concept with mezzanine to have a loft-styled interior concept.

The hybrid propulsion of the steel/aluminum/glass yacht contains four Caterpillar C32 Acert diesel engines. FUTURA features the classifications of +100A1, SSC, YACHT(P) MONO, G6, (Malta Cross) LMC, UMS, SCM, and Green Passport.

CASTOR has been launched at the Heesen Yachts facilities in Oss.

CASTOR belongs to Heesen Yachts’ 55m Steel Class with the Fast Displacement Hull Form by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. Although the shipyard follows the Dutch guidelines of physical distancing, Heesen Yachts launched the yacht on schedule.

“By halving the number of employees working in the shipyard at any one time by working in two shifts, we did not lose productivity and increased flexibility.”

CASTOR accommodates up to twelve guests in six cabins. There is a VIP suite on the bridge deck, the rest of the layout is traditional with the master suite on the main deck forward, two double cabins and two twin cabins have been placed on the lower deck.

The cruising speed of the yacht is 13 knots with a range of 4,500 nautical miles, while the maximum speed is 15.5 knots.

Valerio Rivellini created a 24m modern classic sailing yacht.

The RIVALE 78 features classic lines like a long overhang aft that serves as access to the water with a fold-out ladder; even so, the yacht also has modern elements like a deckhouse made of carbon-fiber with skylights or a very eye-catching steering wheel without spokes. Furthermore, even mast and boom are of carbon-fiber. The whole design appears very clean with a flush deck.

Arksen 85 - Explorer Yacht with optional fractional ownership

The Arksen 85 is one of four yacht sizes with a focus on sustainable yachting to support a foundation and opportunity of fractional ownership.

The 26m explorer yacht has been designed by the naval architects of Humphreys Yacht Design, while the interior of the Arksen 85 comes from Design Unlimited.

To reduce the environmental impact of these motor yachts, the vessel has an efficient design. Even the building process has a focus on reducing the carbon footprint. The chosen materials can be recycled when the boat’s life comes to an end. The hybrid propulsion offers a range of 7,000 nautical miles at 8 knots and 4,000 nm at 10 knots. The top speed is 14 knots.

The standard layout has the master cabin on the lower deck, together with guest cabins. Furthermore, galley and saloon on the main deck. Layout can be changed with galley on the lower deck and master cabin on the main deck forward. The enclosed flybridge offers additional seatings and helm station.

Fractional Ownership

The fractional ownership, branded as Adventure Syndicate, offers to own a part of the yacht without the whole costs of the vessel. Owners can use the yacht 25 weeks per year and 13 weeks of commercial charter. They can also sell the ownership at any time.

“Alice is from the UK and has chosen to join a European syndicate that is buying an Arksen 70. She has decided to buy two weeks of adventure on-board per year for her friends and family. For these two weeks of usage Alice will pay £485,000, spread over 18 months (which she may choose to finance), and will have 8% ownership of the vessel. For every year of membership to the syndicate, Alice will expect to pay approximately £32,600 to cover her share of the upkeep of the boat. The commercial charter of the vessel should keep this number down. These costs represent significantly less than half of the cost of chartering a vessel for the same period.

Alice expects to enjoy the benefits of flexible ownership for 10 years. At the end of this period, Alice will receive a share of the proceeds of the sale of the boat equal to her percentage of ownership. If she owns 8% and based on 54% depreciation over the period, she would expect to receive a little over £220,000. At this point, the net cost to Alice over 10 years will have been approximately £326,000 or £2,720 per month.”

The non-profit Arksen Foundation offers a platform for research to identify new species and preservation of existing species. Moreover, to create media to understand the complexity and fragility of the ecosystem around.
