7 Oceans Explorer Yacht

7-OCEANS // DLBA Naval Architects

DLBA Naval Architects unveiled the 45m hybrid explorer yacht 7-OCEANS.

7-OCEANS is a fast explorer yacht with speeds up to 25 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. The hybrid propulsion meets the IMO TIER IV requirements to explore restricted areas. All-LED lighting reduces energy consumption. Moreover, the interior has no old-growth hardwood but bamboo to reduce the carbon footprint.

Instead of sat doms, the yacht will have flat-panel satellite antennas to reduce the weight in the mast. This improves the roll stability.

MG115 Explorer Yacht

MG 115 // Cantiere delle Marche

Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche sold a new 35m explorer yacht. The project is called MG115.

The MG 115/CDM115 has an exterior design by Francesco Paszkowski and naval architecture by Hydrotec and the Cantiere delle Marche in-house team. The design is more “white yacht” than the typical explorer looks, but the one has an extensive range of 5,000 nautical miles (45,000 liters fuel capacity) to explore the world.

Powered by two 533 kW Caterpillar C18 Acert, the CDM 115 reaches a top speed of 13.5 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. The engine configuration meets the TIER III requirements.

Diva Lloyd Werft

DIVA // Lloyd Werft // judel/vrolijk & co.

DIVA is a German collaboration between the Lloyd Werft and design studio judel/vrolijk - both from Bremerhaven.

judel/vrolijk – usually known for fast cruising and racing yachts, designed a 97m motor yacht concept together with the Lloyd Werft. The shipyard is known for the 115m explorer yacht LUNA and has the 140m yacht project SOLARIS under construction. Moreover, Lloyd Werft will welcome the 182m research yacht REV Ocean for the final outfitting.

The six-deck motor yacht DIVA comes with very sharp hull lines. The radar mast and exhaust system is a very fresh design element that reminds me of a gear tray of bluewater sailing yachts but also reflects the shape of sails.

Four generators – each with a power of 951 kW are part of the hybrid propulsion with electric pods.

DIVA’s bow area has a touch-and-go helipad with the “traditional” circled H to mark the helicopter landing place. As you can see in the rendering above, circles are elementary design elements from the bow to the stern for several lounges and pools. The bridge deck lounge features a fireplace. The sundeck has two lounges. One of these circular places is an al-fresco dining area.

DIVA's interior styling

There are no public interior renderings – the yard describes the interior design as follows:

“For the interior of DIVA judel/vrolijk created an Asian-Scandinavian look – tidy, clean but still with a feel-good factor.”

The owner’s private area contains office, two bedrooms and his/hers bathrooms. The main deck accommodates ten guests in five cabins.

A2 Motor Yacht

A2 // Refit Design by Tommaso Spadolini

Initially launched in 2008 by Eurocraft as MADHURI ONE, the yacht got an extensive refit with a Tommaso Spadolini design and shines bright as M/Y A2.

In my opinion, the 38m motor yacht A2 is a perfect example of what an older yacht can be after a refit with top designers like Tommaso Spadolini, who worked closely with the New York-based studio Peter Marino Architect and worked for the yacht owner in the past. Italian shipyard C.A.R.M. converted the plans of the designers into reality. The stakeholders did it within six months! M/Y A2 has now a bright interior with fresh colors.

Excerpt of the owner’s brief:

“I want a lot of light, big windows, three comfortable bedrooms and one big open space on the main deck.”

Because the yacht had no windows, it needed a new certification to realize the owner’s requirements of a lightful interior.

The yacht has a top speed of 31.5 knots, a cruising speed of 24 knots and an economical speed of 20 knots with two MTU engines.

Designer Tommaso Spadolini comments the project:

“When the owner was still considering buying the boat, we discussed a prospective refit to free up its massive potential. The owner went ahead and bought her in early 2018 and work started immediately. It was a challenging project as he wanted to make significant changes and gave the refit team just half a year to complete the job, which required a high level of cooperation and synergy between the owner, the designers and the C.A.R.M. shipyard in Lavagna.”

Interior of A2 after the refit

Almost the whole general arrangement of the original yacht was changed. The VIP cabin is still in the bow area, and also the crew area is in the aft area behind the engine room of the yacht. A2 got a captain’s cabin in front of the engine room. The two guest cabins are now the one big daughter’s cabin, the full-beam owner’s cabin moved a bit forward.

Canova Yacht

CANOVA // BALTIC 142 with DSS Foil

CANOVA is a 43m super sailing yacht, equipped with a 9m DSS Foil.

The naval architecture of CANOVA was done by Farr Yacht Design. They made also the exterior design in cooperation with Lucio Micheletti, who designed also the interior together with the in-house team of Baltic Yachts. Alongside the DSS foil, an interesting detail is the amidships placed the owner’s cabin instead of the bow or the aft area.

The yacht has a hybrid propulsion system with a 340-degree rotating electric pod. Moreover, CANOVA comes with a self-sustaining power system during sailing journeys (the electric engine becomes a hydro generator). The battery banks can store enough energy to support the silent mode with all hotel functions for ten hours.

DSS Foil

DSS stands for Dynamic Stability Systems. The system uses a retractable foil to lift the yacht out of water that reduces the drag of the yacht. According to Gordon Kay (CEO of Infiniti Yachts & Dynamic Stability Systems, the 160-ton CANOVA can reach up to 25 knots in calm water with a true wind of 25 knots. Another player in the development of the foil is BAR Technologies. These are marine engineers with America’s Cup experience, involved in Ben Ainslie’s campaigns. BAR Technologies engineered the bearings for the DSS foil. Harken delivered electric winches to control it by pushing buttons.

Equilibrium Explorer Yacht

EQUILIBRIUM // Alejandro Crespo // 105m

Yacht designer Alejandro Crespo unveiled his 105m explorer project called EQUILIBRIUM.

EQUILIBRIUM is a bold yet elegant styled explorer yacht design by Alejandro Crespo. The name has been chosen because of the balance between an expedition yacht to explore the colder regions in the northern areas of the world as well as the warmer areas with the whole superyacht standard of amenities.

Moreover, the bridge deck offers a helicopter hangar to welcome different models based on the Airbus ACH platform.

Alejandro Crespo describes the chosen hull color as follows:

“The color of the m/y Equilibrium is champagne‐green. A unique color‐scheme that stands out due to its shiny shades. At sunset, this color creates a perfect match with the metallic‐white tone on the upper part.”

EQUILIBRIUM features nightclub and beach club

The aft area houses a beach club on the lower deck and a nightclub above. Tempered glass surrounds the night club to ensure great 270-degree panoramic views. The 15m x 7m outdoor pool on the main deck is also part of the nightclub’s room. Another pool respectively Jacuzzi is integrated into the beach club that features a great design. There are also lounge areas and two bars.

The owners’ deck is right under the bridge deck and features an outdoor Jacuzzi, sunbathing, and two bars.

Between the engine room and the beach club is a tender garage for one 10m tender, one 8.5m tender, and two jet skis. A 5m crew tender and more toys are stored under hatches at the bow.

STARLIGHT meets the requirements of the Lloyd classification and has a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure.

Interior of STARLIGHT

The interior features real floor to ceiling sliding windows to connect the inside with the outside. The upper deck salon has different configurations — a lounge with an open atrium, a cinema, and an entertainment area to place a piano. The design is clean, bright, and modern.

The owner’s area is forward on the upper deck and contains separate his and hers bathrooms, owner’s office, dressing room and bedroom with direct access to the helipad and a lounge area with pool.

The guest area on the main deck features a gymnasium and five double cabins. Moreover, there is a cabin for the nanny.

The crew is traditionally on the lower deck, the captain’s cabin is on the bridge deck next to the wheelhouse.
