Volpini 2 Yacht Amels 188

Amels 188 VOLPINI 2

Hat-trick at Amels: A repeat client ordered the first Amels 188, christened VOLPINI 2 that is also the first hybrid-powered yacht by the yard. Furthermore, it is the first Tier III yacht in the world.

The Amels 188 belongs to the successful semi-custom line Limited Editions. For the readers who don’t know, what that means: The hull and the exterior design is fully engineered and the client can bring his favorite interior designer. That saves time and costs (explained in a nutshell). The exterior design is a timeless creation by Tim Heywood. The interior of this unit has been designed by Reymond Langton.

The Amels 188 has a beam of 10.60 meters. Although the yacht is just five meters longer than her smaller sister Amels 180, the hull volume is much higher – 671 GT vs. 970 GT. Also, the beach club is much bigger. During the Superyacht Press Tour 2018, organized the Holland Superyacht Group, I had the chance to see both models at the quay and the difference was impressive.

VOLPINI 2 has a 130 sqm owners’ suite forward on the main deck with a twelve square meters fold-out balcony. The yacht has five guest cabins on the lower deck and a VIP suite can be found on the bridge deck.

TIER III and Hybrid Propulsion

Amels 188 Volpini 2 Yacht

The Amels 188 meets the new TIER III regulation by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that is an agency of the United Nations to reduce the NOx by about 70 percent of all vessels over 500 GT with the keel laying after 1st of January 2016. Although the keel of VOLPINI 2 was laid in 2015, Amels reacted proactive and equipped the yacht with a propulsion that meets the TIER III requirements.

The propulsion is a hybrid system. Amels teamed up with MTU, Veth and Hug Engineering.

The yacht will be at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 but not for sale or charter. Appointments by Amels only.

Kamalaya Yacht Wajer 38

The North: Awesome Movie of M/Y Kamalaya and her Wajer 38 Tender

Personally, I like videos of yachts in cold regions more than in the Med or in the Caribbean. Here comes M/Y Kamalaya and her tender - a Wajer 38.

The venue of the performance is Svalbard – a Norwegian archipelago (a group of islands with Spitsbergen as the largest island) in the Arctic Ocean. The North has two considerable protagonists.

There is the 55m motor yacht KAMALAYA that belongs to the Amels 180-series – a semi-custom yacht line with exterior design by Tim Heywood and built by Dutch shipyard Amels. The owner can bring an own interior designer. Additionally, the Wajer 38 – a design by Vripack with a top speed of 45 knots (depending on engine configuration).

But now, switch to full-screen mode, turn up the volume of your speakers and lean back.

Creative Lines from New Zealand produced this video. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram.

Amels 180

New 55m Amels 180 will be build

Amels sold another AMELS 180 of their successful Limited Edition series in the range of 55m to 83m. More than 20 yachts of this series are underway.

The concept is a semi-custom yacht platform with an exterior design by Tim Heywood. The owner can appoint an interior designer of his personal choice. A semi-custom yacht saves a lot of time. The launch of this yachts is scheduled for spring 2017.

Managing Director Rob Luijendijk comments:
“The continuing success of the AMELS 180 and the whole 55 to 83-metre Limited Editions range has really continued unabated. We’re seeing strong interest in our offer from the Middle East, Latin America and renewed interest from Russia. Exchange rates have played a role with our clients in the US, but we believe the key to our success is our commitment to continuously improve, listen to Owner feedback and strive for perfection.”
The owner's suite of the Amels 180 has an own balcony and folding bulwarks at the main saloon area on both sides to have a free view over the ocean. The huge sundeck has a length of 25m.

Madame Kate and RoFlo by Amels

Amels 180 "RoFlo" and Amels 199 "Madame Kate" launched

Two in a row: AMELS launched the 55m "RoFlo" (Amels 180) and 60m "Madame Kate" (Amels 199) at their facility in Vlissingen. Both yachts were designed by Tim Heywood.

AMELS 180 and 199 are semi-customs yachts on proved platforms to provide a fast delivery with (Dutch) quality.

Madame Kate

She is the first AMELS that features a 'pearl effect' paint on hull and superstructure and a touch and go helicopter pad on the foredeck.

AMELS Paint Manager Arie Springvloet Dubbeld explains:
“This is a pure pearl – not metallic – effect. The pearlescent optical effect works like Isaac Newton’s prism, you have different colours in one colour. Pearlescent is basically the next step after metallic paints. You get a very elegant and refined effect.”
Owner's representative comments:
“Both the owner and his wife are fine gourmets. They wanted to put the art of making fine cuisine back into the centre of the boat. As far as the interior design was concerned, Madame was expecting to get an original and extremely elegant environment, a promise clearly delivered by the design Laura Sessa. The matching was very good, she is very talented and understood at once what the client wanted. Looking at the long list of modifications requested by the owner, I was really impressed by the speed of reaction from the AMELS Project Manager and the quality of the solutions given to us. All this comforted the owner that he was building his new yacht at the right place.”
Symphony Feadship Yacht

101.5m Feadship Symphony (Hull 808) comes out

With Symphony (Hull 808) Feadship launched their biggest yacht (and biggest yacht built in the Netherlands as well) to this date at the Royal Van Lent facility in Kaag after the delivery of the 99m "Madame GU"

Symphony was designed by well-known Tim Heywood who also designed the latest launch by Lürssen in Germany: The 104m Quantum Blue.

Symphony is now waiting for completion the engine room and sea trials. She got now her observation lounge and mast with radio communication equipment on top of the sun deck. There is also a bar and a jacuzzi.

The six-deck yacht was designed as a charter yacht to the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) regulations for yachts from 13 to 36 guests including fully helicopter operations on the own helipad.

The bridge deck features a large terrace with outdoor cinema. The owner's deck has a full beam stateroom (Symphony has a beam of 14.10m!) with
• double bathroom
 • dressing room
 • sauna
 • private office
 • forward terrace with jacuzzi
 • study
 • lounge
 • spacious aft deck with lounge and dining area for up to 20 guests.
More special features: On the main deck is a counterflow swimming pool with waterfall located. The lower deck is equipped with an ultra-high definition cinema, a lounge area below the glass-bottom swimming pool, a beach club with wellness centre.

Feadship equipped Symphony with an interesting audio-visual system. One example: the elevator shaft has an interactive video wall throughout the five decks. The glass corridor through the engine room features an all-purpose interactive screen offering images from the underwater camera plus the latest information on the yacht’s location, propulsion and systems. Although she seems to have a great IT aboard I read nothing about environmentally friendly technology.
