55m Sailing Yacht Concept by Philippe Briand

55m sloop-rigged sailing yacht by Philippe Briand

The ideas for the concept came from a California-based client who wanted a long-range yacht with maximum speed potential, a lot of space inside and outside. Furthermore large tenders up to 6.50m. One is stored under the foredeck, the other one is stored in a lazarette aft that transforms into a beach club. In short: The features of a motor yacht packed in a sailing yacht with a low carbon footprint – also a state-of-the-art propulsion system helps to reach that goal.

Designer Philippe Briand comments:

“The building cost for the sailing yacht would be comparable to a motor yacht of the same size. There are a lot of stereotypes in yachting that are not actually true. A sailing yacht is not only for performance and racing. It can be just as suitable as a motoryacht when it comes to exploration, even with a touch more elegance.”

50m Expedition 2 Level Garages

50m/45m Ice-Class Expedition Yacht Concept by Vitruvius Yachts

Vitruvius Yachts (a brand by Philippe Briand) presents a new explorer yacht platform in seven different versions.

The new concept contains the typical explorer design features with open aft deck and the capabilities to transport tenders and toys including sailing yachts with standing masts, helipad or a two-level garage. But the concepts contains also a 45m crossover concept.

“Our team is driven by pushing the frontiers of yacht design,” said Philippe Briand, designer and naval architect at Vitruvius Yachts. “Of course, the needs and functions of expedition yachts, explorers and Mediterranean yachts would at first seem independent of one another. But there are clear intersections where we can create solutions that span multiple categories.”

“We understand that today’s owners want to use their yachts to host glamorous parties on the French Riviera or the Greek Islands as well as venture to remote Pacific islands or even the polar regions. In response, we have created a collection of concepts that showcases the iterations transitioning from expedition to explorer to Mediterranean yacht. It helps an owner to visualize where they would like to place their yacht in terms of capabilities across different environments,” added Briand.

1. Expedition Scientific

With a low profile like M/Y Exuma or Galileo G and space for two nine-meter tenders on the aft deck. It comes with a 50m aluminum hull or a 45m steel hull with ice-class.

“We are very excited by the new yacht concepts in this boundary-crossing range,” said Veerle Battiau, General Manager at Vitruvius Yachts. “The designs include varying combinations of expedition yacht features – such as a large garage, along aft deck and helipad – with the efficient hull of an explorer and the exterior leisure space, interior comforts and access to the sea of a Mediterranean yacht. The yachts break the conventional design barriers.”

Philippe Briand presents 30m Carbon Sloop

London-based yacht designer Philippe Briand presents Egoist - a 30m carbon sloop.

Egoist features a mix of classic and modern lines but with racing genes – also with a minimum crew of two. The focus is on the owner. The yacht has a crew area for two persons behind the main saloon and a spacious owners suite in the bow section.

The yacht has been conceived as fully customizable, as Philippe elaborates, to “be a pure pleasure for the owner, not bowing to the demands or tastes of anyone else. The concept of Egoist is to become an owner’s self-indulgent fantasy; it should be the yacht that they have always dreamed of owning.”

Vitruvius ACQUAINTANCE Oceanco

Vitruvius / Oceanco: ACQUAINTANCE - 105m Motor Yacht Concept

ACQUAINTANCE is the collaboration result of Vitruvius Yachts (a brand by Philippe Briand) and Dutch luxury yacht builder OCEANCO.

ACQUAINTANCE is designed as a Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) motor yacht and will carry up to 24 guests. She should burn 20 percent less fuel than other vessels in her size.

She features a swimming pool on the main deck, the salon is showered in light and yields a 270-degree panoramic view. In most yachts, the guest cabins are on the lower deck. ACQUAINTANCE has 10 guest cabins forward on the main deck. So the guests can benefit from large windows and view over the sea.

The owner’s area is located above the bridge deck. The private terrace has no external access. So the owners have a lot of privacy. From the aft facing bedroom suite, there is an 180- degree panoramic view and forward is an observation lounge with much the same vantage point but facing the opposite direction. The top sundeck —accessible via the owner’s deck —has a sun protected bar and whirlpool aft.

The lowest guest deck onboard features a beach club, cinema, gym and spa at sea level and sports a skylight from which one can view the underside of the swimming pool overhead on the main deck. A garage supports a limo tender up to 12-meters in length as well as a myriad of other water-sports toys. Embarking and disembarking takes place amidships. When the beach club door is closed there is no exterior access to the yacht, thus ensuring 100 percent security.

Vitruvius Yachts 50m

Vitruvius Yachts presents a new 50m Motor Yacht

Vitruvius Yachts by Philippe Briand presents a new 50m project of under 500 GT.

It’s based on the awarded (including “Motor Yacht of the Year 2011” at The World Superyacht Awards) 2010 launched “Exuma” by Picchiotti Motor Yachts (part of the Perini Navi Group). Exuma completed successfully a world circumnavigation of 55.000 nautical miles and proved her efficiency and reliability.

This 50m design is a typical Vitruvius design: Sleek, robust, efficient and well-balanced to cruise with style and comfort.

Combining luxury with green efficiency is the hallmark of excellence by Vitruvius Yacht. The optimized hull saves 25 % less fuel consumption. In this way also a reduced CO₂ emission than other yachts of her size.

Vitruvius Yachts 50m

She has a range of 5.500 nautical miles at an economical speed of 12 knots. The layout of the new 50m distinguishes her from Exuma. Exuma was designed as a long distance explorer this projects was designed for cruising with more rooms.

The space on the main deck is used for the owner’s suite and two large guests cabins for this is the most comfortable location for the cabins. On the lower deck, there are two other roomy guest cabins and the remaining space is dedicated to huge crew quarters for the seven crew.

The living area on the main deck presents the possibility to open on three faces instead of the aft wall only. Transparency is key, which is why all walls of the superstructure are all surrounded by high bay windows, bringing light and outer views into all of the accommodations.

The outer space areas are twice as large than on EXUMA. They include a larger upper terrace, a sun deck and a lounge area on the fore deck. The sun deck has a Jacuzzi.

Since her launch in July 2010, the efficient Vitruvius 50m EXUMA has enjoyed enormous success thanks to her striking and innovative design. This multiple awards winning yacht is the result of a seamless collaboration between Vitruvius Yachts, Philippe Briand, and the shipyard Picchiotti SPA.  The construction of this new Vitruvius 50M will use all the experience and expertise of these partnerships to build a yacht that will cruise effortlessly in The Mediterranean, The Caribbean and beyond.

P2 Philippe Briand 39m Sloop Sailing Yacht

Philippe Briand presents 39m Sloop for Perini Navi

UK-based yacht designer Philippe Briand unveiled a new 39m sloop for Italian yacht builder Perini Navi. It will be a sister ship to "P2".

P2 has placed consistently well at superyacht regattas around the globe resulting in over 10 podium finishes to date.  She was designed for racing and cruising in comfort with the owner’s family. The new owner has ordered this first 39m on the back of the resounding success of P2.

P2 Philippe Briand 39m Sloop Sailing Yacht

The 39m sloop design represents many of the most popular features of the award winning P2.  Briand has modified a few of the characteristics of the original design to better adapt the design to a full performance/cruising program. There is now a furling boom and the water ballast has been neutralized, giving more usable space inside.  The aesthetic roof design accentuates the yacht’s dynamic character. It houses an extremely spacious and well-sheltered cockpit.

The two sisterships are due to meet at The Perini Navi Cup, Porto Cervo in September 2015.

“The 39m is a very responsive swift and agile yacht. It has an appealing attractive design and size for owners looking predominantly for performance It is fully optimized and highly competitive in superyacht regattas as well as offering very comfortable cruising features.  Once again my team and I are delighted to partner with The Perini Navi Group to further develop this successful design.”

PS46 by Philippe Briand & Alloy Yachts

Philippe Briand & Alloy Yachts introduces PS46

PS46 - developed by Philippe Briand and Alloy Yachts as a full engineered turnkey project with several options to customize the yacht.

The PS46 is ready to commence build immediately and is offered with a reduced build time. The design has been developed to cater to those owners looking for a high-quality individual build, without the time and cost that a full custom boat usually demands.

With Philippe Briand and Alloy Yachts having many years expertise in sailboat design and construction the PS46 is set to be a winning formula. The design represents many of the most popular features of their respective award winning fleets.

Naval Architect Philippe Brians comments:

“I believe the 46 m should be a very attractive size for owners. At this length, our design offers a roomier interior, raised up saloon and a huge owner’s private space in all of the three versions of the layout. She is also the largest performing “PANAMAX” sloop we can design, her mast reaching the limit of 62.5 m above the water (performance version). Together with my team, we are very happy to bring all of our experience to the design of the PS46 and to collaborate, from inception, with such a highly skilled team such as Alloy yachts. We are confident that we will create together the best of the PS46’s.”

Tony Hambrook, Managing Director of Alloy Yachts added:

“Fully optimized, with all engineering design work complete, this exciting design offers our customers the quality and individuality of a custom build, at a fixed cost without the time investment that a custom build often requires”

Following the successful launch of the multiple award-winning 67m Vertigo, this partnership between Alloy and Briand was a natural fit. Briand have designed more than 20 super sailing yachts and Alloy Yachts has built more than 40 of them.

The striking 46M is a fast performance sloop design. Speed on the water is an important requirement for many owners and Briand’s expertise in streamlined fast hulls lends itself perfectly to this project.

With the overall design and engineering set, the PS46 design can be personalized to her owner in several ways. The base sail package can be further optimized with an optional race upgrade that includes a PANAMAX rig, carbon rigging and extended sail plan. Owners can choose between three distinct interior design packages developed by the Alloy Interior Design Team for the ultimate luxury and comfort on board.

The collaboration between Philippe Briand and Alloy Yachts promises a very good yacht.

VELA 38 Sail Wave Series

Admiral Sail unveiled "Wave"-serie

The Italian Sea Group unveiled the Wave-series by Admiral Sail with a 38m design by Philippe Briand - The Vela 38.

After entering the market for luxury sailing yachts with the Silent 76, Admiral refines the brand for bigger sailing yachts over 30m. In this way, the shipyard can capitalize the huge know-how and experience in the aluminum construction also on sailing yachts.
The Vela 38 will be rigged with carbon mast and carbon furling boom with provision for self-tacking jib, slightly overlapping foresail, staysail and downwind sail.

Vela 38 Admiral Sail

Phillipe Briand comments:

“When we have read the requirements of Admiral sail for the design of a new sailing yacht, we were pleasantly surprised and immediately motivated. First of all, I admire all entrepreneurs who want to build sailing yachts as we all know the technical challenges are bigger than for motor yachts and the business side is also much tougher. The Italian Sea Group team explained that they wanted to build a sailing yacht that would be a beautiful holiday platform for family and friends.

The team mentioned comfort, external deck spaces, a very protected cockpit, aft deck terrace, performance, smart lines and fun to use. Those elements are high on the list of many potential yachtsmen. There is to our knowledge no existing 38m sailing yacht, delivering all those features. The key element lies in the naval architecture and structure of the hull.

We have designed a beamier hull at midships and a wider section aft. This is the trend of the last successful generation of racing sailing yachts and those yachts have proven to be very efficient. The huge advantage given by this modern and fast shape is the volume and deck space created. We used the volume inside to design an extremely wide and comfortable owner’s stateroom aft.

The general layout offers two more guests cabins and a multifunctional space (office, salon, or third guest cabin). The crew quarters are LY3 compliant, with accommodations for 4 crew and the captain. The layout of the deck space is novel. The cockpit is protected by a hard top, with a sliding bimini, and can be fully protected, with retractable windowpanes. The cockpit becomes the formal dining area on deck at night! The large aft terrace is another feature of this 38m yacht. It procures a protected sunbathing platform with access to the sea and is also connected with the owner’s stateroom. The exterior design is largely part of the Admiral‘s DNA. The yacht is dynamic and will be very responsive. Admiral sail Wave 38 will be a fast and fun sailing yacht and a meeting place for those who love wind and water.”

motoryacht Grace E

GRACE E by Vitruvius Yachts and Picchiotti Motor Yachts

After the sea trials of Grace E, UK-based design studio Vitruvius Yachts by Philippe Briand celebrates the launch of Grace E

The 73m Grace E was built by Picchiotti Motor Yachts – a part of the Perini Navi Group. The hull design of Grace E ensures a low CO₂ emission and fuel consumption of just 23l per nautic mile (or 283l per hour). It’s approximately 15 % less than other yachts in this class. The low fuel consumption combined with her 185.000 l fuel capacity gives her a range of 7.500 nautic miles to explore the world. All energy for propulsion and hotel needs is provided by the vessel’s eight generators which have been scaled to run at an optimal output rate of 80 %.

The yacht has space for up to 12 guests provided in seven staterooms, four double cabins and two twin cabins. The Owner accommodation comprises a 92m² suite, situated on the main deck and featuring extensive bay windows offering fabulous views out to sea.

The guests of Grace E may choose from a large exercise pool, an extensive spa which includes a hammam, gym, steam room, dry sauna and cold plunge pool as well as treatment rooms and plenty of shaded areas for relaxation. The state-of-the-art fitness center is equipped with cardiovascular machines, weight machines and a kinesis machine.

Timeless and elegant seating feature throughout living areas to create a refined atmosphere that is comfortable without compromising on style. Designed by Rémi Tessier, Grace E‘s sumptuous interior incorporates rich furnishings and a subtle color scheme to accentuate the yacht’s aura of peace, tranquility and elegance.

Thanks to her azipod propulsion she is very quiet when she is cruising at 16 knots. The dynamic positioning system allows the yacht to drift above the seabed rather than dropping a heavy and potentially damaging anchor.

motoryacht Grace E

Yacht captain Eddie Cooney commented:

“Recent sea trials have confirmed that the use of electrical Azipods for the propulsion of Grace E has made for exceptional quietness and comfort while navigating. This result is due to the fact that the yacht does not have traditional shafts but a system that does not create propeller noise. There is little evidence that the boat is underway unless you are looking out the windows and actually witnessing the changing landscape. We expect that this will be a very much appreciated asset to guests cruising aboard.”
