Baltic Yachts delivered sailing yacht ALICE (ex LIARA) - a Malcolm McKeon design.

ALICE (ex LIARA) has been developed as a performance-oriented family cruising yacht but is also equipped for regattas. Furthermore, ALICE features a massive lithium battery bank to run the boat for up to eight hours with all functions without a generator. A retractable propulsion system reduces water resistance for regattas. In cruising mode, the propulsion system works as a shaft generator to reload the batteries.

The experienced owner appointed Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design for the exterior design and naval architecture. The designer gave her a very sporty look and a low-profile deckhouse. The yacht also features the studio’s remarkable stern design with the radiused teak deck. Adam Lay made the interior design of the carbon fiber sailing yacht.

During the Monaco Yacht Show 2019, I enjoyed visiting the yacht. She is an absolute masterpiece. Photos can’t transport this beautiful interior. It is warm but also looks very light. The crew area is not the same style but has a warm and modern feeling. It seems ALICE’s built owner focuses on a happy crew. The crew accommodation is aft with direct access to the cockpit.

ALICE has a telescopic keel to reduce the draft to 3.95m. The advantage over a lifting keel is the impact on the salon. There is no disruptive keel box in the interior.

Southern Spars and North Sails developed wind propulsion with code and asymmetric sails. The main sail features a square top.

ALICE's awesome interior

Adam Lay Studio designed an interior that reflects the natural environment of the owner’s home area, the Channel Islands – a group of islands off the coast of Normandy.

The colors are bright, with soft furnishings with an open feeling, supported by indirect LED lighting. The deckhouse invites much natural light in the deck salon, containing sofas with coffee tables on the port and a dining area on the starboard side.

“The dining table and coffee table surface finishes are designed to mimic ripples in calm water. The hanging locker doors are also designed to reflect the appearance of water or tree bark – the intention is always to use stylized elements and not a literal facsimile to create an atmosphere. The textures on some of the fabrics chosen continue this feel and the lighting is carefully positioned to pick up and highlight these elements.

The accommodation comprises (from forward to aft) an owner’s suite in the bow, a VIP suite alongside a lower saloon area (snug), a spacious saloon amidships, and two twin guest cabins aft. The crew accommodation comprises galley, crew mess and laundry, office/temporary cabin, navigation station, and two en-suite twin crew cabins with en-suite heads.”, explains Adam Lay

The large cockpit has two areas. Aft sits with a big table and forward is with coffee tables. A bimini, removable for regattas, shades it.
