The German yacht designer Valentin Weigand won the Young Designer of the Year award by Boat International with his project PLATO.

PLATO has a length of 87m and has some special features like a wine cave alongside an art gallery and a dining winter garden that serves as a dance club location as well. The aft area of the main deck can be partly opened that a waterfall drops from the winter garden into the pool at the beach club on the lower deck. There is also a gym and a spa. More and smaller pools can be found on the upper deck and the lounge at the bow.

Furthermore, to step into the future of superyachting, PLATO would have hydrogen fuel cell propulsion.

The résumé in designer’s words:

“Overall, Plato offers a platform for physical and mental well-being, encouraging travellers on board to recognise, appreciate and preserve the beauty that surrounds all of us, if having the courage to look up close.”

The 2020 edition of the Young Designer of the Year award was Valentin Weigand’s third attendance. To Boat International he told:

“Just go for it. If it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out and you can try again next year”.
