Spectre Yacht Benetti

Benetti FB269 (Spectre) takes shape

John Staluppi - that's a name in the yachting industry. Not as a designer, not as a shipyard - as a very experienced yacht owner. Known for very fast and very luxurious displacement yachts as well and yachts named after James Bond movies (in this case: Spectre aka FB269).

I have never worked with him or met him, but he is one of my favorite yacht owners because he has interesting projects.

Currently, Mr. Staluppi has project Skyfall under construction in Turkey, owns a Trinity called Skyfall and refitted a Palmer Johnson called Skyfall II. The Trinity is currently for sale. Also, the project Skyfall in Turkey is for sale.

Spectre Yacht Benetti

For Spectre, John Staluppi returns to Benetti. He owned the “Diamonds are forever” (FB253) some years ago. He comes along with Frank and Bas Mulder of Mulder Design for the naval architecture who are also responsible for the stunning The World is not enough and Octopussy. Staluppi appointed Giorgio M. Cassetta for the exterior design. The yacht will have a top speed of 21 knots but also a cruising range of 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Benetti, Mulder, and Staluppi sound like a mission to build the ultimate one and I am currently like a little child just right before handing out of presents at Christmas.

Vincenzo Poerio – Benetti CEO comments:

“We are delighted of John coming back, especially with such a request, we can define as a very exciting “new challenge”. This relationship – with a so faithful client give us a responsibility even heavier than our usual. We are sure to meet once again with his desires. By the way is an unrivaled signal of Benetti’s great commercial success – based on customer listening in addition to our working teams unmatchable capabilities to realize any kind of Owners’ request”.

John and Jeanette Staluppi say:

“We are very happy to be building our new yacht with the Benetti team as my wife, Jeanette and I were extremely pleased with “Diamonds are Forever”. The new venture will be of a much higher standard with new modern day high tech systems, and once again working with Frank and Bas Mulder. With the combination of expertise between Benetti, Mulder and our design team, we believe this will be our greatest project.”

M/Y Spectre is scheduled for launch in summer 2018.

Octopussy Heesen Yachts

Classics (1988): Video of Heesen's Octopussy (007)

That’s pretty cool! Heesen uploaded a video of the launch and sea trials of “Octopussy” from 1988, designed by Frank Mulder.

I was two or three years old at this time :). She was the world’s fastest yacht with a top speed of 53.17 knots! I think this yacht would be perfect for Portrait (Spotlight on).

If you combine a fast luxury yacht with a James Bond film title, you are right. Built for the well-known Mr. John Staluppi who brought us the most interesting motor yachts :)

She is powered by three MTU diesel engines with KaMeWa water jet propulsion. Each engine has a power of 3.432 hp, so Octopussy has a total power of 10.296 hp. Well, this yacht is still impressive but of course not environmental friendly. Octopussy has a fuel consumption of 32 liters per minute!

The German newspaper FAZ talked in 2007 to her current owner and wrote a nice article about her.

Skyfall II Palmer Johnson 150

Sunrise Yachts Refit: 46m "Skyfall II" (ex "O'Khalila")

Antalya-based shipyard Sunrise Yachts announced the extensive refit of the Palmer Johnson Supersport 150 Skyfall II from 2007.

As she drove as O’Khalila through the seas, she had a gold painted hull. Sunrise Yachts gave her a new gray color. Among the repainting, the yard installed a new teak deck, new designed hard top built in high-tech composite with integrated air-condition, new outside composite furniture on both decks including an integrated jacuzzi.

Sunrise Yachts removed the central main engine and the appropriate shaft. The yard added SeaKeepers Gyro Stabilizer System (in addition to the Quantum Zero Speed Stabilizers).

Also, the guest and owners areas of Skyfall II were refitted and got a design to Evan K. Marshall.

Onboard, customisation meets all yacht owner needs and desires, bringing Diamonds are Forever into a class of her own, with a brief to ensure a layout that offers maximum guest satisfaction in terms of space, services and comfort, in the light of making her an ultra successful charter yacht. The customisation of the project included the arrangement of the cabins, the location of the wheelhouse, the interior decor and the addition of a top deck above the flybridge to create a private panoramic deck 12m above sea level.

The spacious interior layout comprises two panoramic master suites and four guest staterooms, a guest elevator to all decks, a full beam sky lounge and vast open and shaded deck spaces. Of particular note is the additional top deck, located above the sun deck, which is also served by the central elevator. The aft part of the sun-deck also allows easy touch and go helicopter operations.

The accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 cabins, is formed by 4 cabins located on the lower deck, a split level VIP suite come 2nd Owners suite at the front of the main deck and the master Owners suite forward on the upper deck, both with a 180° view sea view. The main deck level is complemented by a fitness room and a relaxation & beauty parlor, which can be open to all guests or sectioned off as part of the VIP/2nd owners’ suite.

The magnificent Owner’s suite, as with the rest of the yacht’s layout, has been well thought out for guest use, with the opulent hallway providing seclusion for each area comprising; private study, bathroom, separate toilets, walk-thru wardrobe and the plush main bedroom.

The completely custom design furnishings and interior decor are by Evan K. Marshall/Usonia V, a London-based interior specialist who has already designed several yacht interiors for Mr. and Mrs. Staluppi.

The sumptuous classic interior uses fine Italian marble, onyx, Madrona burl wood, gold leaf, mother of pearl and Marieux crystal, with great attention paid to every detail to achieve maximum visual impact.

Diamonds are Forever has a maximum speed of 16 knots and an oceanic range of 4,800 nautical miles at 12 knots.
