PGYD from Italy unveiled the stylish 50m motor yacht design Shade G50.
By the studio’s design philosophy of thinking outside the box, this new project proposes an innovative approach to experiencing onboard spaces by implementing new architectural solutions and an alternative layout. The project is distinguished by its curved lines. It features a single aerodynamic curve that begins at the wheelhouse windshield and extends to the stern, defining the large lateral arches that serve as the project’s defining elements. These arches enable the creation of a new typology of space, characterized by an opening and closing pergola seamlessly integrated into the overall design, allowing for the enjoyment of the entire stern area in any weather condition.
Upon boarding, one is immediately struck by the sensation of entering an open space, as the external area can be experienced while remaining fully covered by the sizeable electrically operated awning of the pergola. This creates an architecturally-inspired “front porch” that serves as a prelude to the spacious “villa” entrance. At waterline height in the stern area, there is a large internal beach club with a customizable layout, made possible by the engine room’s forward positioning and the guest cabins’ placement on the main deck. The guest cabins benefit from the more significant volumes of the main deck and increased brightness due to the large side windows on the hull. This positioning is advantageous for guests and crew, with the latter having complete access to the lower deck to carry out onboard functions. The interiors are modern and bright, featuring long LED strips that define roles and materials.
The diverse interpretation of the spaces is also reflected on the upper deck, which is reserved exclusively for the owner’s use. In this area, there is a customizable space located before access to the actual cabin. The cabin flows towards the stern, leading to a spacious private terrace. To optimize privacy, lateral micro-perforated panels allow light to pass through while limiting visibility from adjacent yachts when in port.
The G50 is distinguished by a solid horizontal layout of the spaces, providing an expanded perception of the environment. This is particularly evident on the main deck, where the external and internal beach clubs and lounge can be perceived as a single, large external/internal environment. The expansion of this space also occurs vertically, as the stern area with the infinity pool, placed entirely on a single level, is immersed in a “double volume.”
The G50 project aims to attract a younger-than-average group of owners with a recognizable and modern product, both stylistically and functionally. The distribution of the spaces guarantees more excellent usability for both the owner and their guests, allowing for extended stays on board beyond the traditional summer holiday.
