Turkish yacht builder SES Yachts launched a Hoek-designed Truly Classic 128 - the fifth yacht of the series - check the first one (Atalante by Claasen Shipyards, including interior photos)
Designed for a European client, Linnea Aurora exhibits all the defining features of Hoek’s Truly Classic style, including extended overhangs, a broad shoreline, sophisticated wooden deckhouses, and outstanding sailing capabilities. Hoek Design’s careful focus on the shape of the hull, the design of the appendages, and the layout of the sails are well-known for creating desirable sailing qualities.
Constructed from aluminum by SES Yachts in Turkey, Linnea Aurora is primarily for family use. It can handle swift, comfortable journeys across the ocean and perform well in races. The yacht has the newest sailing technologies, such as North Sails’ Helix ‘structured luff’ technology. This innovation minimizes the headstay sag, leading to increased sailing angles and allowing for modifications to the sail’s shape.
Linnea Aurora positions a Hall Spars carbon spar with ECsix carbon rigging. The masthead sail plan can be set up for leisure sailing with a Yankee and staysail, which can be fixed or detachable. The staysail also serves as a sail to pull items and adjust the masthead.
The yacht has a Lewmar winch system featuring power take-offs (PTOs) from the MAN diesel engine and both generators to guarantee adequate hydraulic power during intricate sailing maneuvers, especially during competitive races. An advanced lithium battery system enables the yacht to operate during nighttime ‘silent periods’ without needing a generator, allowing for extended periods of sailing in this silent mode.
Linnea Aurora is the inaugural TC 128 to incorporate an engine exhaust SCR (selective catalytic reduction) unit designed to eliminate nitrogen oxides and adhere to the most recent emissions standards. This, combined with its advanced sailing technology, premium B&G navigation system, and luxurious accommodations constructed by a subcontractor for SES Yachts, places Linnea Aurora as a leader to date among her sister ships and promises to be a valuable addition to the TC 128 fleet.
Similar to other TC 128s, this vessel is equipped with a carbon fiber balanced rudder blade, which is lighter and significantly thinner than a comparable aluminum one. This feature reduces Linnea Aurora’s weight at the helm and enhances the helmsman’s ‘feel’ of the boat. Additionally, it improves the boat’s hydrodynamic performance.
The yacht’s keel is designed in an ‘L’ shape with a bulb and fin. The lead ballast is contained within the aluminum framework. Her draft is quite deep at 4.5 meters.
