Holland Jachtbouw lays down keel for schooner RAINBOW II
Dutch yacht builder Holland Jachtbouw set to start the building of the 51m sailing yacht RAINBOW II
RAINBOW II will be built for the owner of the 40m J-Class RAINBOW (JH2) who plans a transatlantic record from New York to Lizard which currently held by the 46m WINDROSE OF AMSTERDAM (also built by Holland Jachtbouw) for over 12 years. The aluminum hull will be built at the sub-contractor Scheepswerf Made and will be delivered in the beginning of 2015 to Holland Jachtbouw in Zaandam to complete the project.
The exterior design comes from the well-known design studio Dykstra Naval Architects. Responsible for the mahogany art-deco interior design is DeVosDeVries.
To her traditional exterior design with wooden spars, handcrafted wooden blocks with Dacron sails comes modern technologies inside. RAINBOW II will have a hybrid power installation which allows her to sail on electric power. Fully charged from sailing, the batteries can be loaded sufficiently for a full day of consumption, truly making her a “green boat”.
