Bandida Yacht SFG Yacht Design Josh Rodriguez

BANDIDA by SFG Yacht Design and Josh Rodriguez

BANDIDA - a 44m full-displacement yacht concept

BANDIDA was developed by Franco Gianni of SFG Yacht Design (known for dynamic center console boats) and yacht designer/naval architect Josh Rodriguez. They designed the yacht from their own view as experienced boaters. Franco Gianni has also the view from a superyacht captain.

In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting and progressive yacht designs in 2018. In addition to the eye-catching sporty design, the yacht benefits from the engineering of a proven full-displacement hull and bribes with an operation range of 5,000 nautical miles and a displacement of just 470 tonnes. BANDIDA has a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots, powered by two Caterpillar diesel engines of the C32 Acert-series.

Exterior Spaces

The forward area has a flush deck with sunbathing area and a lounge area with table. Further sunbeds, seatings and a pool (an artwork made of glass) can be found on the sundeck. The forward area of the sundeck features hidden gadgets like cool boxes and lift tables. An alfresco dining for up to 12 guests is in the cockpit.

BANDIDA welcomes up to 12 guests in five cabins to sleep on board and space for a crew of eight people. The design duo describes the layout as follows:

The interior layout of the boat is unique and non-traditional just as she is on the outside.

Spectre Yacht Benetti

Benetti FB269 (Spectre) takes shape

John Staluppi - that's a name in the yachting industry. Not as a designer, not as a shipyard - as a very experienced yacht owner. Known for very fast and very luxurious displacement yachts as well and yachts named after James Bond movies (in this case: Spectre aka FB269).

I have never worked with him or met him, but he is one of my favorite yacht owners because he has interesting projects.

Currently, Mr. Staluppi has project Skyfall under construction in Turkey, owns a Trinity called Skyfall and refitted a Palmer Johnson called Skyfall II. The Trinity is currently for sale. Also, the project Skyfall in Turkey is for sale.

First launch picture

Spectre Yacht Benetti

For Spectre, John Staluppi returns to Benetti. He owned the “Diamonds are forever” (FB253) some years ago. He comes along with Frank and Bas Mulder of Mulder Design for the naval architecture who are also responsible for the stunning The World is not enough and Octopussy. Staluppi appointed Giorgio M. Cassetta for the exterior design. The yacht will have a top speed of 21 knots but also a cruising range of 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots.

Benetti, Mulder, and Staluppi sound like a mission to build the ultimate one and I am currently like a little child just right before handing out of presents at Christmas.

Benetti FB269 Spectre

Vincenzo Poerio – Benetti CEO comments:

“We are delighted of John coming back, especially with such a request, we can define as a very exciting “new challenge”. This relationship – with a so faithful client give us a responsibility even heavier than our usual. We are sure to meet once again with his desires. By the way is an unrivaled signal of Benetti’s great commercial success – based on customer listening in addition to our working teams unmatchable capabilities to realize any kind of Owners’ request”.

John and Jeanette Staluppi say:

“We are very happy to be building our new yacht with the Benetti team as my wife, Jeanette and I were extremely pleased with “Diamonds are Forever”. The new venture will be of a much higher standard with new modern day high tech systems, and once again working with Frank and Bas Mulder. With the combination of expertise between Benetti, Mulder and our design team, we believe this will be our greatest project.”

M/Y Spectre is scheduled for launch in summer 2018.

NICOSTASIA Yacht Van der Valk

Nicostasia (26m) by Van der Valk

NICOSTASIA is the fourth unit of the raised-pilothouse yachts by Van der Valk, built for a repeat client.

The raised-pilothouse have an exterior design by Guido de Groot. NICOSTASIA features also the interior design by Guido de Groot. The 26m full-aluminum motor yacht has a top speed of 25 knots, powered by two MTU 10V 2000 M93 with a power of 1502 HP each. The cruising speed is 18 knots.

The sundeck is equipped with a second helm station, sun lounge, C-shaped seating with tables and a kitchenette with fridges, wine cabinet, and teppanyaki. Moreover, the aft area is the home for a 4.45m RIB and a jet ski.

The full-beam master suite is located on the lower deck while the crew mess, a part of the crew cabins and the galley/utility room is on the main deck forward. So, the crew has a direct access to the main helm station. Alongside the master suite, on the lower deck can be found a full-beam VIP suite, a double guest cabin and guest cabin with Pullman beds.

Guido de Groot comments:

“Normally, of course, the saloon contains the dining space while the galley is located elsewhere in the boat But this family loves to socialize with guests while cooking, so they requested this one-of-a-kind feature.

They also wanted to have as much natural light as possible in that area. The design allows as much sunlight as possible to reach this space from the oversized windows in the wheelhouse above by making the ceiling in the galley area spectacularly high. Another ingenious element is the extractor hood above the stove that doubles as a lighting fixture. Each of these components was quite complex to implement given that the passage between the sunbathing areas on the flybridge above is directly above the cooking island and the extractors. Only an expert yard like Van der Valk could have accomplished this so well.”

Stella di Mare Yacht

Family Connection: Stella di Mare by CBI Navi

Stella di Mare is a 40m explorer yacht built by CBI Navi after a design by HydroTec (exterior design/naval architecture) and Fossati Design Bureau (interior).

The European owner wanted an ocean-going yacht with value and less “fashion” that serves as a connection of three family generations from seven to 75 years. The youngest generation has an own area that meets their personal style with comic and cartoon designs (even in kids areas not the typical style of high-end luxury yachts). The father wants to work onboard to manage the business from a professional studio. Last but not least, to meet the grandfather’s lifestyle of fine wine and good food, the yacht is equipped with a wine cellar with a capacity for 800 bottles.

The main deck features the main saloon with dining, galley, main lobby and the master suite. The lower deck has four guest cabins and the crew area with three cabins, laundry, and the crew mess. The captain has a separate cabin on the upper deck. There is also a family/TV room.

Alongside the air conditioning system, the yacht is equipped with an extra heating system when the yacht is underway in extremely cold regions.

Other goals were large exterior and interior space as well as a timeless design and a transatlantic range for long cruises. Stella di Mare has a fuel capacity of 75,000 liters and is powered by two Caterpillar C32 with a power of 746 kW each at 1600 rpm. The displacement yacht has a maximum speed of 14.5 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.

The sundeck has a fixed bimini, an area for a gym and sunbeds. Moreover, there is an access to the crow’s nest to enjoy a 360-degree view during the journeys.

A tender is stored on the bridge deck aft, another storage for toys is in the lazarette aft. There is also a workshop for smaller repairs. A rescue boat has been placed forward under the sunbathing area.

Solo Yacht Tankoa

Tankoa S701 "SOLO"

Project S701 by Tankoa Yachts has been launched and christened M/Y SOLO.

The 70m concept S701 is designed for open-plan living spaces to bring the outdoor to indoor. The “Sea Lounge” features an oversized beach club with an integrated bar. Also, a sauna, hammam and private balconies with sea view are disposed of here. The panorama dining area makes it feel outside but protects from the outside elements.

The touch and go helicopter landing area of M/Y SOLO can be transformed into a dance floor. The Sky Lounge has a big sized gym and massage area. Thanks to her big windows with a free sea view. A state of the art pool and with the sunbathing area can be found on the Sky Lounge too. The Sun Terrace invites with sun beds, sofas, and a 360° view.

The almost 100 m² master stateroom is located on the foredeck area under the bridge and allows a 180° view over the sea. Here is also a private studio, private jacuzzi and private sunbathing area.

Michel Karsenti, the sales and marketing director of Tankoa commented:

“Our aim is not to compete with our Italian colleagues, it is to compete with Northern European shipyards. There is a highly tangible reason why our price is higher. But our Italian business model and regulations mean that we will be more competitive than Northern Europe.”

Interior Renderings

SOLO has six cabins for twelve guests. The owner has a private deck with master suite above the main deck. It features a private pool and sunbathing forward. The private deck has also an office and an extra relax area. Furthermore, an aft area with bar, seatings and the helipad.

The guest cabins are located on the main deck. There are two double cabins, two twin cabins, and one VIP cabin.

The lower deck accommodates a crew of 17 (plus captain next to the bridge) on the lower deck. Alongside a crew mess, it contains also an extra relax area for the crew. A hospital and the galley is also on the lower deck.

Tankoa S701 Bullet Points

Sales and Marketing Director Michel Karsenti comments:

“The owner is a truly experienced boat lover. This is his second build with Tankoa and his wish is now to put Solo on the market for sale and build a new Tankoa, probably larger. It is surely rewarding for all of us at Tankoa to see a client who basically has very little time to enjoy his boat considering his hectic business life but enjoys the construction and creation process so much.
As much as we would like to see the client enjoy his boat, we are truly happy to have developed such trustful relationship with such knowledgeable client. Solo will be exhibited in Monaco and will surely sale quickly as she is an exceptional yacht that will demonstrate that Tankoa is the alternative to Northern European shipyard to build a high-quality yacht at reasonable cost and extreme flexibility.
But overall, the most amazing factor between his previous yacht, Suerte and the new one, Solo, is the countless number of technical details that have been improved. The interior is also very different with all seats and tables by Fendi Casa. I am pretty sure Solo, like Vertige, will have a big impact on the market at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show.”

Johnson 93 Yacht

Johnson 93

Thanks to her dual-level vertical window design, the Johnson 93 looks like mini-superyacht and offers a master suite with a 270-degree view over the ocean.

“This series of yacht came about as a wide-beam design with an on-deck master,” says Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design. “She’s got that owner’s cabin with the wraparound glass, a big leisure space with wide side decks and a good-sized flybridge with a solid hardtop, and good crew’s quarters. We designed the structure of the Johnson 93 to accommodate customization and provided Johnson Yachts with the engineering and several layouts, but we sometimes consult on additional accommodation plans.”

Alongside the spacious master suite, the yacht accommodates a full-beam VIP suite and two guest cabins on the lower deck forward. The crew accommodation is at the aft with a double cabin for the captain and a Pullman cabin for a crew of two people. Moreover, there is also the crew mess and an own entrance. Arcadia A105

Arcadia 105 feat. Hot Lab

New Arcadia 105 in collaboration with Hot Lab Yacht & Design presented.

The new Arcadia 105 is the evolution of the 100 feet model presented in her full grace in February 2017. It is the first time that Arcadia – the innovation-driven yard with the green aspiration – teams up with the Milan-based studio Hot Lab Yacht & Design.

Antonio Romano comments:

“In general we will respect the masculine lines, clean and multifaceted, that represent the familiar image of the yard; we will reinterpret them to further develop the onboard living spaces, both inside and out, that represent the quintessence of each ARCADIA yacht”.

Arcadia 105 Hot Lab
Arcadia 105 Hot Lab

The 105 got some updates on the exterior design like a wider lounge area on the sundeck. Furthermore a sunbathing area on the bow.

In total, the Arcadia 105 offers seats for more than 20 guests for dining. 10 on the formal dining table, another twelve at lounge area that can be transformed into a dining area.

The main salon has full-height windows and fold-out bulwarks to create a kind of a luxurious pavilion on the water.

The superstructure has the typical Arcadia feature: An army of solar panels that reduces generator use to a minimum. This system makes the yachts very autarkic without diesel smell or noise. It produces enough power to run the most important systems.

Arcadia 105 Hot Lab Interior

The upper deck with helm station is a combination between outdoor and indoor space. Thanks to electric windows like in a car, it can be fully enclosed when bad weather comes out or can be opened for sunny days.

Ugo Pellegrino, ARCADIA YACHTS sole administrator, comments on the new direction:

“We are convinced that the success of a yard, which includes us at ARCADIA, is connected to the experience that the owner and his entourage are part of, from the moment that they begin to think about a new yacht to when they decide to sell it to buy another. Here the role of the design studio in the early phase of design plays a fundamental role in creating a solid and trustworthy relationship between the yard and the owner. We, therefore, went to the best professionals in yacht design who not only are technically prepared, but also have an extraordinary ability to listen and to emphasize. Only when we could completely identify ourselves with the owners could we really understand the nuances of the client’s needs and imagine designing the details that make the difference when creating a successful semi-custom project.

After thinking very hard about our choices and working together on several pilot projects, we decided that the best partner to evolve into ARCADIA 2.0 would be the design studio Hot Lab. I am sure that our collaboration will be an immediate success, both with our first projects and with the relations that we are developing with old and new ARCADIA clients.”

“The purpose of our work with ARCADIA will be to contribute to the continual evolution of the brand, already so avant-garde”, explains Antonio Romano, partner at Hot Lab. “Our objective is to develop the winning characteristics of the ARCADIA brand in concordance with client briefs. ARCADIA Yachts is a consolidated and successful reality and we have approached them with enormous respect and pleasure given our first-hand experience with the quality of their products and their highly professional workforce and management.”

There are five different interior layouts to meet the requirements of many owners. Below one example.

Oasis Yacht Lazzara Ombres Architects

OASIS by Lazzara Ombres Architects

OASIS - a crossover concept of a luxury yacht and support vessel by Lazzara Ombres Architects (Joseph Lazzara and Ian Ombres).

Although, just 80 feet in length, this catamaran yacht offers extensive spaces. One of the eye catchers is the enormous platform aka flush lower deck with a size of 84 sqm (900 sqft). There can be stored a 28-feet tender alongside jetskis that can be unloaded by an integrated telescope crane. When the tenders are in the water, the platform transforms into a beach club with sunbeds and lounge area. The inner part offers a shaded place like a fixed bimini.

OASIS comes with 492 sqm (5,300 sqft) of exterior and interior space. The sun deck offers Dining, sun beds, a helm station, and a jacuzzi. The main deck houses the saloon with floor-to-ceiling windows, main helm station, a bar, a dining area and two seatings for four persons and a seating with coffee tables. Outside are sunbeds at the aft and a seating forward in front of the helm station.

The lower deck accommodates a full-beam owners’ suite with fold-out balconies on both sides. There are also two double bed cabins and two twin bed cabins. Moreover, a crew accommodation for five people and the galley in the bow area.

Joe Lazzara, yacht designer in the third generation comments:

“The innovation is the stepped layout and higher freeboard which achieves a flush, full beam, lower deck. This space is typically used for technical equipment on a traditional Catamaran hull”

The designers were consulted by the company Fun Air (the builder of inflatable slides, climbing walls etc. for superyachts) to detect the best places of integrated air compressors for a quicker setup of the toys.

OTAAM 85 GTS Profile

In February, OTAM presented the OTAM 85 GTS - now they came up with an ONE-OFF model.

OTAM announced the sale of an OTAM 85 GTS with a less aggressive design to an experienced owner of production boats. The yacht was designed by the OTAM design team in cooperation with the Paris-based architect Joseph Dirand who detailed exterior design and layout. Moreover, he styled the interior and the layout to meet the client’s specific requirements. The yacht will get two master suites. One forward and a full-beam suite amidships. The interior houses also a galley, saloon/dinette and a crew cabin for two people in the bow with own companionway. Outside you can find a bar, seating, sunbathing area, and a swimming platform.

The yacht will be powered by two MTU engines with 2.600 HP each and an Arneson Surface Drive (ASD 15) for a top speed of 45 knots and a cruising speed of 38 knots.

The owner will receive his yacht in June 2019.
