Feadship Royale - a sovereign superyacht for the 21st century

Feadship has unveiled its latest Future Concept at the Monaco Yacht Show and she is a spectacular testimony to the art of glass. As is customary for this annual prototype, Feadship Royale has been designed with the next generation of superyacht owners in mind. In this case, the draughtsmen have given full rein to their imagination on the potential requirements of two specific hypothetical owners. To mark the year of the King’s coronation, Feadship Royale speculates on how King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima – and the country which they serve – might use a Feadship.

“Feadship Royale is not an official gift for their Majesties, although we do hope they have fun exploring our thinking on their behalf,” comments Farouk Nefzi, marketing & brand director at Feadship. “Feadship has built a number of stately superyachts for sovereigns from around the world. We also designed Piet Hein, a gift from the Dutch people to King Willem- Alexander’s grandmother Princess Juliana on the occasion of her marriage in 1937. It is fair to say that we are rather proud of this royal heritage.”

“While recent builds such as Venus have already established our leading position in this highly specialized area, Feadship Royale deploys glass to an unprecedented degree,” explains Tanno Weeda, one of the design team responsible. “Having a full-height glass superstructure is a challenging concept but we are convinced that it is now technically possible. As more and more glass is used on land-based projects, our sophisticated clients have the right to expect the same on their superyacht. Ovens of the size required to bend giant glass panels are now available, and Feadship has the design and construction expertise to ensure total safety at sea.”

A royal yacht should respect the environment. On Feadship Royale, electrical power comes from two medium-speed 2000kW diesel generators. She would already meet the IMO Tier III and EPA Tier 4i regulations – due to come into force in 2020 – without requiring after-gas treatment.

“Every bespoke Feadship reflects the challenging and inspiring demands of our clients,” concludes Nefzi. “In the case of Feadship Royale, we have balanced two widely differing requirements in a single design. With its lavish use of glass, the yacht has the ‘wow’ factor one would expect from a vessel that will entertain dignitaries from around the world, while at the same time she reflects the transparent approach to life taken by the Dutch royal family.”

Oyster 115 Sailing Yacht

Humphreys Yacht Design and Oyster Yachts are developing the Oyster 115 for an existing client.

To be built in the UK for a 2017 launch, the Oyster 115 complies with the demanding requirements of MCA LY3 coding for charter compliance, and offers accommodation for 10 to 14 with a master suite and four double guest cabins aft, with a fifth guest cabin forward planned as a children’s suite that with fold away bunks quickly and simply converts to become their ‘TV den’. The captain’s double cabin opposite could also be used as a supplementary, sixth guest cabin.

A split level aft deck with full-beam window recess adds additional light to the master cabin already bright with seascape windows to each side. It also creates a dedicated leisure deck space with private access directly from the master suite and a simple step down to the hydraulic fold-out transom door that converts to sizeable swimming and boarding platform. The tender-well set into the foredeck serves also as a forward cockpit once the jet RIB launches.

With a particularly sleek freeboard design, single headsail and well swept-back spreader carbon rig alluding to a fast pace, the Oyster 115 evolves the genre to provide her owner with a well-honed, fine pedigree performance distance cruiser that’ll rattle through the sea miles. Her accommodation is tastefully modern with craftsman-detailed simple form and careful colourways, and all with a great sense of space and plenty of natural daylight.

The upper saloon is at the same level as the cockpit space, with the dining area set forward, just one step down under the signature Oyster window. The design of the vertical sliding doors creates an open feeling throughout this massive -12 x 6 meters of entertaining & living space.

There are crew facilities for six, the design also creatively meets the tougher new code requirements – for example, for fire-zoning and enclosure of space around the galley.

With a powerful, large volume hull following Oyster Yachts’ evolving twin rudder designs that allow carrying beam and rig further aft for pacey passages and good sea comfort during long voyages and coastal hops alike, the Oyster 115 is an exciting custom project.

H2 Yachts and motioncode: blue developed a hydrogen yacht.

The developers had the goal to create a yacht that combines Zero-Emission technology with a great design, harmonious lines, and functionality.

The yacht has a fully electric propulsion system with a LOHC (Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers) as an energy storage. The concept has enough to have an operating range of over 6,000 nautical miles at a speed of ten knots.

Michael Stusch explains that his goal was to orient themselves along the lines of the automotive industry and to integrate solar panels and a wind turbine in a modern and minimalist hull and superstructure design.
Maritime functionality coupled with a luxurious interior, which is unusual even for a superyacht of this size.
Michael Stusch himself has over 20 years of maritime experience as captain and lived for many years on his own yacht. He is a Chartered Engineer and is responsible for the naval architecture and concept idea of the vessel, the exterior and interior design, together with the design team motion code: blue developed from Graz in Austria.
The straight vertical bow and the Explorer shape which enable a 480m ² beach club with 2 pools, 2 decks, a fold-70m² large bathing platform and floor to ceiling windows were requirements for the design.
The sea view on the main deck, on which the salon and the open kitchen with bar, is made possible through the transparent bulwark and on the upper deck, which is fully reserved for the owner, to ceiling windows.
The upper deck has a front and a rear terrace, and a spa with sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi. The bedroom of the owner is wide open to the rear terrace and features a bar, which is right next to the sliding door, giving you the feeling of sitting outdoors.
The bridge deck is used as a dining room to aft and in addition to a dining table for 20 people, a bar and a wood stove for each piglet and pizza. The sea view from the bar is complemented by a 50cm high sofa that follows the main design line that runs from the bow to the stern of the upper deck.
Another distinctive feature is the sky lounge which has a retractable roof, which is as close when it rains in 30 seconds leaves. A waterfall connects the pools. It starts in the hot tub on the owner’s deck, running in the pool on the main deck, just behind the built-in pool chairs along the pool and ends in the lower deck.

The tender garages with 2 perfectly tailored to the mother ship tenders ( 7 and 11 meters ) and an SUV are located below the lower beach clubs. Fold side flaps make it possible to increase the lower beach club and serving as landing platforms for tender and other water toys. The balconies behind the side flaps can be used for fishing during the trip.
The 7.5-meter high bow provides a smoother ride at high seas and provides more space for tenders, jet skis and a submarine.
The terrace behind this is for the 2nd Owners reserved and can be separated by sliding doors, offering privacy in a hot tub in the other opens another waterfall. Stairs on the port and starboard – side retractable lead to a helicopter platform, which allows, thanks to its 7m diameter helipads an easy “touch and go”.

Since there is any technique in the tank deck, the entire lower deck VIP cabin and the crew can be used. The owner has the choice between 5 and 6 VIP crew cabins or any other combination.
In addition to the electric Voith-Schneider propellers that enable a silent cruising, full stabilization and dynamic positioning, located on the tank deck the necessary boat equipment, a crew mess with bar and dining room for the entire crew and a galley that seats up offers to 3 bosses.
The rest of the space is occupied by the 140,000-liter tank for the “Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers” ( LOHC ). This “fuel” is fluid and non-explosive under normal pressure and normal temperature. The stored hydrogen is burned to release in fuel cells, which generate up to 1-megawatt electrical energy to drive the motors and all other electrical equipment on board the 62-meter yacht.
Is thus fueled the self-powered yacht lying at anchor about 860m² of their solar panels and a wind turbine. The range is 6000 nautical miles at 10 knots.

The Austrian yacht design studio motion code: blue designed a 115-meter private luxury submarine yacht with six decks called MIGALOO.

Submarines on yachts or support vessels are a trend, but these are mostly for three passengers. With MIGALOO, the design studio motion code: blue goes years ahead to develop submarine yacht respectively submarine superyacht.

The hull of the submarine is same used on conventional submersibles, but the tower on top measures more in length. Moreover, the yacht has more outside spaces to enjoy the superyacht lifestyle with sun pads, bar, lounge areas, and an 8 x 3-meter pool. The furnishings are stored under hatches when yacht plans to dive.

The beach club opens by two hatches on each side to form four terraces. Two of the terraces are for the dining area and salon on sub-deck one.

The owner has an outside area forward with direct access to the two-level owner suite below. There are eight VIP cabins on the sub-deck number two and three. To live the superyacht below the waterline, the 115m MIGALOO comes with a cinema, a library, a gym with spa.

The crew area with the mess, laundry, extra crew gym, and the cabins are on the sub-deck four and five. The main galley is on sub-deck two, but there are some smaller kitchens for the stewards to serve efficiently on yacht parties.

ILONA was built in 2004 by Amels Holland. She had a helicopter hangar on her aft deck, but it was removed and is now a pool. Amels gave her a new touch and go helipad.

Vitters Yachts launched the Dubois designed 46-meter superyacht named Ganesha.

The fixed carbon-fiber bimini over the cockpit offers a shady place, but it is possible to enclose the area with sliding windows to enjoy the cockpit even in bad weather. Furthermore, Vitters developed a feedback rudder system.

The owners wanted a performance-oriented sailing yacht with the possibility to cruise around the world.

The tenders are stored hidden under the foredeck, moved by cranes – also hidden installed. Speaking of hidden equipment, GANESHA has a real flush deck. Even the clamps are not visible when the yacht is in sailing mode.

Maltese Falcon Yacht Perini Navi

MALTESE FALCON // Perini Navi

Maltese Falcon built by Perini Navi in Tuzla, Turkey is a ship-rigged sailing luxury yacht. It is one of the largest privately owned sailing yachts in the world at 88 m (289 ft), similar to Royal Huisman's Athena and Lürssen's Eos.

Maltese Falcon is easily controlled and has been seen to sail off her anchor and away from berths within harbors. The yacht’s sophisticated computer detects parameters such as wind speed automatically and displays key data. An operator must always activate the controls, yet it is possible for a single person to pilot the yacht.

Heesen Yachts announced the launch of Crazy Me, a 50-meter one-off.

YN 16250, a 50m all-aluminium, the semi-displacement motor yacht was recently launched at the Heesen facility in Oss. She was christened Crazy Me during a private ceremony followed by a party thrown by the Owners to celebrate the fine craftsmanship and hard work of the team of Heesen sta and subcontractors who created this unique vessel.

Crazy Me is an exceptional yacht; the credit for her conception must first go to her visionary Owner, who pushed the boundaries of creativity and design. The Owner appointed Gary Grant to design the radical exterior lines of his new superyacht: His eye for detail when collaborating with the Exterior Designer has been instrumental in achieving the clean, pure lines that form the unique profile with its distinctive “swoosh” line from bow to stern that will make this vessel highly recognizable at sea.

One of the most striking elements of this design is the use of Formed glass, another Gary Grant Design signature. As well as looking great, it is powerful, effective at sound insulation, and the low-reflective surface provides excellent visibility.

For the interior, the Owner chose the renowned Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, who assisted him in creating a stunning interior where the clean, linear and contemporary design emphasizes the incredible internal volume.

Perhaps the craziest area of Crazy Me is located on the sundeck that houses a vast custom glass-bottomed pool that allows light to dapple the main deck aft seating area below. There’s also an incredible music system pioneered by the Owner, with a fully customized speaker supplier brand new to yachting.

Crazy Me will undergo sea trials in the North Sea, and delivery to her Owners is due in June 2013.

GALACTICA STAR is a 65m fast displacement motor yacht by Heesen Yachts.

Van Oossanen delivered a hydrodynamic design that is 30 % more efficient than a round-bilge motor yacht. The naval architecture was done together with Heesen’s in-house naval architects. Omega Architects designed the sporty and elegant exterior lines. Bannenberg and Rowell Design have created the interior design.

Two MTU engines with a power of 4,300 kW each at 2.100 rpm, power GALACTICA STAR up to 27 knots. If a long range is needed, the yacht has a range of 4,200 nautical miles at 14 knots.

The yacht was delivered in June 2013.

Twilight Yacht Oyster 125

OYSTER 125 TWILIGHT

Twilight - One of the largest Oyster sailing yachts.

The first Oyster 125, by Dubois, has moved out of the build shed in preparation for her forthcoming launch and sailing trials in February. This magnificent yacht has been named Twilight by her owner and will be handed over early in the Spring.

David Tydeman, Oyster CEO commented: “This is a tremendous milestone for Oyster and our partnership with RMK and Dubois. The first Oyster 100 – Sarafin is now in the Caribbean and will take part in the 2013 St Barths Bucket in March. Destriero Yacht

Destriero - The sad end of a legend?

Motor yacht Destriero - for some years at the Lürssen facility in Lemwerder. Is this the sad end of a legend?

Destriero has a length of 68m and thanks to three gas turbines with 60,000 hp a top speed of 60 Knots. The yacht was built by Italian shipyard Fincantieri 1991.

In 1992 she crossed the Atlantic (3,106 nautical miles) in 58 hours at an average speed of 53 knots
