DISLOPEN // CRN Yachts // Zuccon International Project

CRN - the superyacht division of the Ferretti Group developed three new 50m showcase projects with Zuccon International. Let's start with 'Dislopen' Special Edition - a modernly styled yacht. The other two will follow.

All three projects are designed by Zuccon International and engineered in-house by the CRN crew. Dislopen was designed for direct contact to the sea with a lot of outdoor space. Sunbathing area, lounge and dining area at the aft and an area for more privacy while docked with the stern in the harbor. When the yacht is at anchor, guests can enjoy at the beach club or at the balcony.

This semi-custom concept is available with different bow and bridge designs.


Dislopen Yacht

She accommodates up to 10 guests in one owner’s suite and 4 VIP cabins. She has also enough space for a crew of 9. The project has also the option for the CRN float-in tender garage like on CRN’s 60m J’ade to arrive and leave the yacht in gentleman’s style.

Ribot 85 // Marco Casali - Too Design

Italian yacht designer Marco Casali of Too Design sent me his modern, graceful designed concept Ribot 85.

The Ribot 85 features a floodable tender garage for a 35-feet boat to carry the guests directly inside the yacht with maximum privacy. On the foredeck is a touch and go helipad, three pools are available. A bigger one is above the main deck at the aft area; two smaller ones are on the private owner’s deck. One at the aft, the other one is forward located.

Accommodation of the Ribot 85

The Ribot 85 accommodates twelve guests and a crew of 22. All guest cabins are on the main deck. Each suite has its foldable private terrace.

The owner’s deck has a focus on privacy. It’s not walkable or to look able by anybody. The upper deck has a lounge bar, a gym, and a sunbathing area.

Amsterdam-based yacht design studio van Geest unveiled their latest project: Ocean Nomad an ice-class yacht.

Ocean Nomad was designed for an experienced client who wants to travel around the world. The yacht features a touch-and-go helipad on the aft deck, a sky deck with seating area, jacuzzi, sun bathing area, BBQ, and dining. Also a large storage for bicycles and other sports equipment.

The full beam master suite is located on the main deck. She has large windows to the sea side to enjoy the outdoor’s world inside. Also, the dining area and lounge have full height windows and sliding doors to make this area more a part of the outside.

At the aft deck is the tender bay for a big 10m tender. But an overhead crane is also available to handle the water sports equipment.

Last year ISA Yachts presented the YARA 44, now comes her bigger sister: YARA 48.

Dutch design studio Omega Architects is responsible for the exterior design and the interior layout. The naval architecture was done by Van Oossanen. ISA Yachts wanted a fast yacht for modern yacht lifestyle with efficiency and a transatlantic range. Omega delivered! This concept has options for different engines with a top speed between 24 and 30 knots. Also, a range of 4,200 nautical miles at 12 knots is possible. Another goal was to have 50 % more usable space aboard.

Like many state-of-the-art yacht concepts also the YARA 48 is equipped with high glass sliding doors to make the main saloon a part of the world outside.

The YARA 48 is equipped with two jacuzzis. One is located on the main deck the other one is traditionally on the sun deck. There is also a bar, a dining table for up to 10 persons, sunbathing area and a lounge area forward to enjoy a 360° view over the see.

The owner’s suite with his and hers bathroom is on the main deck and features big windows for a great view over the sea. A 6m tender and a jet ski are stored on the foredeck

The Italian shipyard CRN from Ancona launches the new sporty looking 73m "YALLA".

The exterior lines were designed by the Dutch studio Omega Architects, the interior comes from Droulers Architecture. The new superyacht, the first to be built by CRN on the new naval platform of 12.50 meters in width, is characterized by sleek, slender and sporty lines, which make the profile particularly streamlined. With 5 decks, YALLA can host up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including the Owner Suite and Vip cabins, together with a crew of 22 members.

430,000 hours to build YALLA

The construction of YALLA, which includes the best design solutions realized by CRN, has required around 430,000 hours of work from the shipyard workers and subcontractors and the daily contribution of over 150 direct and indirect workers.

The launch ceremony was introduced with the greetings and speeches of the top managers and the local authorities: Alberto Galassi, new CEO of the Ferretti Group, Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN, Xinyu Xu, Vice-chairman of Weichai Group, together with the Mayor of Ancona Valeria Mancinelli.

I-Nova Yacht

I-NOVA // Cosmo Explorer

The Greek shipyard Cosmo Explorer built the 50m I-Nova in 2013 to a Cristiano Gatto design who is responsible for the exterior and interior design.

The yard and designer developed I-Nova as a D0 ice class explorer yacht with extra-thick steel plates and propeller shafts, propellers, sea chests, rudders and steering gear systems, as well as the sea water cooling system to meet the ABS classification requirements.

Cristiano Gatto and his team designed I-Nova for an experienced yacht owner who had own ideas for his perfect yacht. The yacht has five decks with a functional layout, which offers a lot of private space for the owner with a large cabin on the main deck. A private staircase leads to the upper deck with a big private panorama saloon.

Above the Upper Deck is I-Nova‘s Bridge Deck located which housing a well-equipped wheelhouse and two cabins, one for the yacht’s Captain and the other for the Engineer. The panoramic position of the helm station allows perfect visibility further enhanced by the reversed windows, which eliminate all glares from the dashboard.

A large terrace astern with twin tables and sunbeds is the right spot to have breakfast or to dine under the stars. The loose outdoor furniture on this deck, sunbeds, and armchairs belong to Roda’s Mistral and Network collection in natural teak.

Behind the owners’ upper deck is the big storage deck for tenders, which is equipped with a Fabio Buzzi 34 Semi-enclosed rib tender and a Scorpion 8.5 ST rib tender, which can be lowered with the installed 5-ton crane with 9-meter outreach. The storage deck is also suitable as a party deck.

The guests can find a gym, jacuzzi, and sunbathing area on the observation deck.

Motor Yacht "Dragonfly" helped in Vanuatu

The captain of the 73m motor yacht "Dragonfly" (built by Silver Yachts in 2009) published a video of their mission in Vanuatu.

In Vanuatu raged a cyclone in mid of March 2015 and many aid organization helped there. One of them is YachtAid Global with M/Y Dragonfly. A big, big, big thank you to the crew, YachtAid Global and all other people who helped there 🙂

Captain Mike Gregory comments:

“Whilst on board in the week leading up to the 14th March, the crew and I were watching a storm develop in the South Pacific with trepidation. Having spent the past few years cruising these beautiful areas we have made many friends and developed relationships with the local communities in these island groups. Unfortunately, our fears were realized when the storm became a Cat 5 Cyclone and on the 14th March, it ran straight over the top of the remote island chain of Vanuatu, 1,000 Miles East of Australia. It was a horrible feeling knowing that the people of Vanuatu were suffering and we felt compelled to assist in whatever way we could. After a discussion, the Owners fully supported the decision to head south and assist those same people that had been so hospitable to us in recent years

The team that we have on Dragonfly are exceptional, we have over recent years developed our medical training program and all crew are highly trained with 5 EMT’s & a Dr on board we were well positioned to act as first responders on the many islands that we visited”

Van der Valk Shipyard started the construction of DUTCH FALCON in 2015. The semi-custom Continental Trawler 2395 with flybridge is a Guido de Groot design.

DUTCH FALCON is a 24m trawler styled motor yacht, constructed in full-aluminum. She is the first unit of a new motor yacht line by Wim van der Valk.

Oyster 118 Yacht

British builder of luxury sailing yachts OYSTER presents the new Oyster 118/1225 in collaboration with also UK-based Humphreys Yacht Design.

The new Oyster 118, respectively Oyster 1225, fits my personal favorites of sailing yachts. Nice size, sleek, deck saloon with tinted windows, and the design of the bimini are excellent. But the draft of 4 m is a bit too much for me and my favorite sailing/travel areas. Another plus point is the air draft of 52m – so she is under the Panamax height of 57.91 m.

Instead of Oyster 125 and Oyster 100 (both yachts are built in Turkey), the 118 is made in Southampton. The launch was scheduled for December 2017, because of the trouble of the yard, the yacht was launched in 2020 as sailing yacht ARCHELEON.

Humphreys designed her with a plumb bow and twin rudders. She will accommodate a crew of six in three cabins in the forward area and space for up to twelve guests in six cabins.

“We have been working for nearly three years developing the specification and design. We’re really proud now to announce the contract to start work… and particularly delighted to build the new Oyster 118 in Britain at our own Southampton facility where we have long experience and involvement in superyacht custom work. Within the Oyster Group here we have Southampton Yacht Services who have worked extensively on the likes of Leopard, Hetairos, Mari-Cha III and the famous Fife classic, Cambria. This is, of course, also, where we build our Oysters 825 and 885.

For this new project, we are creating female tooling and additional construction facilities to enable building the second Oyster 118 overlapping with the first, such that we can produce up to four of this new addition to our range before summer 2020.”

55m SALT by Lujac Desautel - Crystalline Lounge on Sea

San Francisco-based yacht designer Lujac Desautel created an interesting 55m mix between traditional and futuristic details called: SALT

SALT‘s first eye-catcher is the bathing platform on the side. Bathing platform? That’s a stage! Ideal for a majestic outing in anchor bays, concerts by dedicated musicians and yacht owners or as a massive gangway for sidewise moorings.

Lujac Desautel designed the yacht for a

“flexible, transparent, and honest environment life aboard.”

Also, SALT‘s lowerable stern overhang is a great detail that represents a classic ship design. The tender storage is in the foredeck area and has enough space for two five and seven meter long tenders.

Asya Yacht Heesen Yachts

ASYA was launched in December 2014. Now after the sea trials, Heesen delivered her on 3rd March 2015 to her owners.

ASYA features an exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and interior design by Bannenberg & RowellASYA represents the restyled 47m-Class by Dutch yacht builder Heesen. It has now the rescue tender in an enclosed bay in front of the wheelhouse. Also, the crew accommodation meets now LY3 requirements.

Heesen describes the interior design as follows:

“distinctly Far Eastern, restful feel, inspired by the designs of Dieter Rams, Frank Lloyd-Wright, and Tadao Ando.”

By the way, some Apple products are inspired by the designs of Dieter Rams too.

49m Classic Explorer Concept by Rhoades Young Design

The British design company Rhoades Young presents a concept of a 49m classic styled explorer motor yacht.

The concept is inspired by the JFA built motor yacht Bystander (2006) which was created as an escort vessel for the 39m J-Class sailing yacht Velsheda (JK7). Rhoades Young designed both. Exterior and interior.

A classic yacht concept like this is a very good choice for people who love classic yachts with the latest marine (safety) technology for adventures around the world in gentleman style. In my opinion, the best option if you can resign a yacht with hundred years of history which often interesting for lovers of classic yachts.

The owner’s area is located under the bridge deck with a 180-degree view over the sea. The owner’s suite features a study, an inside/outside saloon separated by large glass sliding doors which flood the saloon with natural light.

The classic explorer can store two big tenders up to 9 meters under the huge aft deck area. A smaller crew tender finds his place on the foredeck.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests and 12 crew members. One of the design specials is a “quadruple-height staircase” that emphasizes the center of the yacht.

Résumé: Design is always a question of taste, but the layout with big hidden tender storage, big aft deck and private owner’s deck is great! Thumbs up, Rhoades Young!

ROSEY Yacht Nauta Air 111

ROSEY (ex YOLO) is a 27m motor yacht by Cantiere delle Marche in 2014. She belongs to the Nauta Air Line.

The Nauta Air range is a semi-custom yacht line designed by Nauta Yachts. The design combines the superyacht style with explorer seaworthiness. It’s fully constructed in aluminum and offers to customize on many things. So the owner of ex YOLO was able to create with shipyard and designers the layout of the yacht. The layout of the Nauta Air range can be modified without disadvantages on its naval architecture.

Motor Yacht ROSEY is currently for sale with an asking price of €3,950,000.00, located in Italy.

ROSEY offers a 60 m² sun deck with whirlpool, sunbathing area and al fresco lounge with flybridge. A detached stairway connects main deck and master suite for owner’s privacy. The guests have an own access to the lower deck.

Mario Pedol of Nauta Design comments:

68m Explorer Yacht Concept by Tony Castro

UK-based yacht designer Tony Castro presents a new 68m explorer yacht design for Sunrise Yachts in Turkey.

This masculine yacht concept features a foldable climate-controlled hangar and space for other tenders like two limo tenders, car, submarine, jet skis and so forth. She has a beam of 13m, a draft of 3.5m and accommodates 12 guests and a crew of 15.

Tony Castro describes this explorer as the Range Rover on the seas. Well, I think this is a good description. Good looking, very useful to carry things, tough in rough seas and of course a yacht typically very luxurious interior.

Another great feature is a large aft deck with bar, dining area, large pool and sunbathing area. The beach area with opening doors on the side and a fixed terrace on the stern with glass sliding doors.

Tony Castro designed the explorer yacht to his naval architecture credentials and touts with higher efficiency and vaster cruising range than other yachts in this class of size.

Ethereal Yacht Hybrid Royal Huisman

ETHEREAL: 58m Hybrid Sailing Yacht by Royal Huisman (2008)

ETHEREAL is a ketch rigged yacht launched by Royal Huisman in October 2008 (delivered beginning of 2009) and is the first yacht equipped with hybrid technology.

Many sites reported that Savannah by Feadship is the world’s first superyacht with hybrid propulsion. I didn’t because here is another hybrid motor yacht: The Columbus 40S Sport Hybrid launched in 2013. But the first is Ethereal. Thanks to Royal Huisman for remembering. Anyway, Congrats to Feadship for the biggest yacht with hybrid propulsion 🙂 (to the publishing date of this article 😉 )

Now let’s go the facts. The exterior and interior design were created by Pieter Beeldsnijder. The naval architecture for the ketch-rigged performance yacht was done by well-known Ron Holland. A very good trio to create awesome yachts.

Alongside her generator to recharge her 500 kW/h lithium polymer battery bank she is also equipped with a shaft-driven generator to recharge the batteries under sails when the propeller twirls.

In addition to eco-friendly benefit: Ethereal is quieter and by association more comfortable. Normally you need generators around the clock to produce enough power for hydraulic and electric motors (anchor winches, sail winches, furlers, yacht’s electronics and what you have). So you can also use the energy from the battery bank.

Now six years after launch she logged over 100.000 miles.

Saudade Yacht Wally Sail


Saudade is a 45m sailing yacht built by Wally in 2008.

In case you don’t know her and you see her for the first time, would you see a Wally in her? It’s an untypically deckhouse. If I see it with the Wally glasses, it’s a bit conservative ;). Even so, she is very stylish. I would describe her sporty, elegant and clean with her flush deck 🙂

Her exterior and interior design come from the boards of Eidsgaard Design. The naval architecture was done by Bill Tripp Design.

Kiss Yacht Feadship

Kiss (46m) by Feadship

Oh yes! Feadship launched yachts in a line (Savannah, Project 808) . The newest is christened "Kiss" and has a length of 46m.

Kiss was built at the Kaag facility and was designed by Dubois like the award-winning COMO launched in 2014 and is linked to her in some ways. After a half of year signing the contract of Como, Ed Dubois came with another client to Feadship.

Henk de Vries commented:

“With yachts like Como and Kiss, we are effectively building a sporty type boat around our average size of over 15 years ago, but now with all the know-how and intelligence, Feadship has developed. This facilitates a clever approach to high-end production, one which remains entirely custom while keeping the costs of a Feadship of this size within the bounds of reason.”

“Ed was highly appreciative of the way that the Feadship yards work with outside designers as well as the in-house naval architects at Feadship De Voogt. Even though Como and Kiss have similar looks they are very different yachts. Most if not all yards would have taken a platform approach based on Como’s hull, offering the client a discount for the reduced amount of engineering. That’s not how Feadship does things.”

“The owner of Kiss required a more conventional speed of 16 knots (Como is 19), so she has a different power plant. And while Como is a sports boat with an open top deck, Kiss has a complete master penthouse on the upper deck. This obviously added both volume and weight to the yacht, hence requiring a revised lines plan. Make no mistake, these are two different Feadships.”

The interior (no photos yet) was designed by also UK-based Redman Whitely Dixon design studio. Feadship describes it as a stark, crisp look.

“They did a fantastic job on Kiss. It is never easy to take over an interior design project once underway and, on behalf of Feadship, I would like to say how impressed we are again with RWD’s work.”

The owner has an own private deck. A feature what is not often used on yachts in the “smaller” 50m class. Kiss accommodates 8 guests in 4 cabins. There are two crew cabins, Captain’s Cabin and Engineer’s Cabin.
